Unfortunately, with my order last year, there were 3 plants which were on my January confirmation list, but were not available in May because weather issues impacted the plants over the winter. Last year was tough on a lot of the daylily growers. I am more hopeful this year. Crossing Fingers!

Same thing happened at a couple of growers where I had ordered plants last year. Hopefully this year will be better. Crossing Fingers! Crossing Fingers!

Except for a couple plants I had reserved from Ron Reimer, I promised myself that I wouldn't order any plants this year. Yeah, right! Floyd Cove came out with their new list and that started an avalanche! Hilarious! And then I see photos on here of Bonnie Corley, and even though it's evergreen, I had to get it. Thanks guys! So right now, I am at 20, with at least a few more yet to go.

Speaking of South Seas, I had grown it for years, and it was always a reliable plant. I mostly grow seedlings, but never used South Seas very much until a few years ago. I ended up with some really amazing shades of coral/ orange/ red in a blend that is hard to describe. And then I started getting a bunch of seedlings in the exact same shade as South Seas, except on a much better plant with amazing candelabra branching and incredible bud counts. Since I can't keep all of them, I had to let South Seas go. I wish I had known!

While using some of the same stock plants as other growers, I tend to have quite a few seedlings that are quite similar as some you might see. They might not be the read deal, but they were free!

@Deryll Those are beautiful seedlings! You have done a spectacular job "copy-catting" the real thing, and sometimes ever better. If you have any of your "better than South Seas" plants that you can part with, I'd love to get some from you. South Seas had gone on and off my want list so many times that the waves are making me sea sick. Rolling on the floor laughing

The seedling-vs-parent comparison is fascinating. I got a plant that was supposed to be Mexican Fiesta, which should look like this.

Instead it looks like this, which I think is much nicer.
Thumb of 2024-01-05/LoriMT/929c0c

The parent of Mexican Fiesta is Winner's Trophy, which looks like this, which is much closer to the plant I have, but I still like mine better. I guess that is why we all like to hybridize daylilies.

Deryll, your seedlings are gorgeous! If you ever have enough of not Nature Lover and not Dynamic Glow to part with I'd love to buy some plants from you. I don't hybridize, but am happy to support those who do!

Awesome looking seedlings, Deryll!

Donna, your new acquisitions look lovely! Bored Housewife is looking popular! I had Russian Rhapsody at one time and let it go due to downsizing. Every time I look at a picture of a daylily I let go, I wish I had it back, lol!

Except in very rare circumstances, I generally only have one or two garden visitors each year, so I have only ever registered three plants- and don't know that I will do more since I really don't sell plants. Thanks everyone for the comments though!

Donna, that seedling is fairly new, but I will write your name down so I don't forget- and then leave another message so I don't forget that one! LOL! I can tell you that my photo is a pitiful comparison to the real thing. It is one gorgeous plant!

Lori, there are several of those South Seas seedlings, but as with all of my seedlings, they are just willy nilly in the garden, and I won't know where they are until they bloom. There should be plenty of those that I can share, and there again, I will make a note of it.

I wish you guys weren't so far away so that you could walk the fields and choose your favorites. With over 3000 clumps, there is a wide assortment. Thank You!

Beautiful, Derryl, I'm in the " if you ever want to get rid of " club. Especially " Not Nature Lover".

Lori, I agree, your plant is a lot nicer than Mexican Fiesta ( I got mine as a bonus plant from Rich Howard…I'd rather have yours!).

So…this morning I chatted at length with Tim Bell ( and his cute Southern accent) because his web site will not allow you to order plants to be delivered later in the season. It has no capacity to order after June. So we decided I would send him a paper order with the note attached that I wanted a September delivery. The " no southern plants before September " rule worked great to prevent rust here last year.

So here is what I've ordered from Tim

A Dream Within a Dream ( mostly because it is a song from A Christmas Carol, sung by Christmas Past)

Alice Baier

Baby's Got Blue Eyes

Banana Python

Breathing in Lilacs

Cosmic Blast

I also included a list of subs/bonus plants

@zoia Lucky you in getting to talk with Tim Bell. He came to our garden club and spoke in person. He is a genuinely good human being as well as a good hybridizer and grower. I was able to win a couple of his plants at the club auction that day, and they thrived in my garden, blooming the first summer in the ground. I know he has a rigorous spraying program, so his plants in September should work for you. Of the daylilies you selected, I really like "Baby's Got Blue Eyes". That is a stunning double!

Nice haul Zoia. I also had a nice conversation with Mr Hall a few years ago. Very generous. I bought Alice Baier parent My Cup Overflows from him back then.
I have always admired Deryll seedlings. I would love to take a trip down there to check out your magnificent growing fields.

@LoriMT your picture of the daylily that isn't the cultivar you said it should be looks a lot like Pointed Perfection, you might look at the stats, etc. on PP. Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Pointed Perfection')

floota said: Since I'm looking at closing down my garden within the next two years and have finally gotten the number of registered cultivars down to under 300, the answer should be "none." But I couldn't resist adding just one of Scott Elliott's new little ones which I'd judged for the Achievement Medal as a seedling when I judged a show in GA a couple of years ago. Scott named it 'Who Pinched the Mayor.' Great looking plant when I saw it previously. Beautiful branching and bud count.

I'm so sorry to hear you will be closing down your garden, Julie. You have been such a great asset to the daylily community and especially Region 3. I hope all is well with you. If there is some way I can get a ride to Lilyhemmer this year I would hope to see you there.

I'm surprised and sorry to hear about that rust, Nan. I hate it too. I do have to say that our club has ordered from Brown's Ferry - many plants for many years (including for this year). We've never ever gotten rust from their plants ... at least none of our growers ever mentioned it and I have been one of those growers.

I'm not saying the plants arrived with rust. They may have gotten rust after they got here, since I don't spray anything and I am sure they do (like almost all commerical growers in the South). Rust is endemic here. I was making the point that the cultivars I ordered from them were susceptible.

With that said, Thelma Louise is on my want list since it is a child plant of JT Davis, which has been very rust-resistant here.
