Great choices, Caroline! I also need to look what Lois Arleen is.

Stay warm! We have not had -40 this winter yet. So far a warm winter for us.

Karen, thank you for the other picture of Danse!

Wow. I missed the minus and was thinking 40°. Dang! It was warm enough here for me to put daffodils in today (it shouldn't be but it is.)

Oh creme de la orange sounds pretty! I've seen a few places offering scrum for less than Monrovia.

I'm curious - has anyone ever seen the tree peony Spellbound for sale in the US? If so, I'd like to leave room for it. (Or is it exclusive to Simmons?)

Klehms used to sell Spellbound. Think both Solaris and Adelman's probably have it now as well, it'll probably be available in the next few years in the US. I think Angela from My Favorite Flowers and More mentioned having it as well.

Thank You! Liz for that info! Zellycat, I am glad that you asked this question. I have been admiring this TP for a long time, and hope that it will be offered soon in the US. I am very much "SPELLBOUND" whenever I look at its picture. Smiling

Klehm's had a few of those, I purchased Perfection from them but none of the ones from there survived CO. The ones from Simmons seem to be doing well but increasing slowly, AL is hard on them with the heat.

Spellbound is nice. I remember talking to Nate about it a while back and he said it was one that is slow to increase on their farm.

Thanks Liz!

Oh that would be so nice, I hope so. I checked my favorite flowers and it's not there this season.

She mentioned it as a recent acquisition, hopefully to be offered in the future.

Wow, Caroline! I have never experienced -40. You posted a couple of days ago, so I hope it is getting a bit milder today. Or are you still in the grip of the polar vortex?

Still in the grip of the weak wobbly vortex. It is minus 25 right now , but warming up some this week. Tuesday and Wednesday are snow days coming. Which is welcome moisture when it melts.
My mood for reds is an idea I have had to plant red peonies along inside my back fence.
I also ordered White Innocence from Adelmans.

One thing that I have noticed this year is that the rare ones and others sell out fast. Parkland had 9 of the Lois Arleen when they opened.
I ordered the last one.
Same thing on Peony Shop Holland …when they opened I had a good long wish list of reasonably priced ones. A month later they have only a few that are not hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Caroline, stay warm and safe. Those are some cold temperatures! We were -12 F last night and have not hit zero today. Many roads are very icy due the the foot of snow we had last week and not warm enough, after plow has been through, for the sun to be out to make progress on melting it.

Your red selections are wonderful.

Congratulations to everyone who has secured the peonies they were hoping for.
Soon it will be time for some of your in the south to be flowering. It's hard to believe it is that time again.

I wish it was standard practice for everyone to leave pictures of their peonies up and just say "sold out". It makes it really hard to know what's out there, to wish for, otherwise.

They all seem to remove the picture when they run out of stock.
Sometimes they will add varieties later in the season when they know what has matured more.

The arctic blast is coming for my area tonight and all this week. Down to the teens - cold to me but probably considered very mild when compared to minus zeros for the cold regions like Caroline's and Tracey's.

I too wish they leave the Sold Out varieties on the web so we can see their overall offerings. Not everyone is able to get on the website on Jan. 1 or the first week for that matter. I guess we are all die hard peony fans that we actually and excitedly wait for the websites to open. Hilarious! Hilarious!

I did not order a single peony this year, first time in a decade or more! Yes, it makes me feel twitchy but I have to buckle down and get everything planted that I already have!
100% agree with leaving sold out roots up! When you're lucky enough to get them before that point it's nice to be able to go back to the website and copy relevant info into a spreadsheet so it's easier to know what to plant together! Sometimes they go so fast I don't even have time to take a quick screen snap!

Yes, I agree about leaving the sold out ones up. I think when I go to this year's APS convention I will ask the owners why they can't do that?

Hollingsworth is open. 5 varieties are already sold out, but still show up in the listing.

Thank You! LG for letting us know that Hollingsworth is open. I just checked it and it has Heather available. I have been admiring Heather Peony for awhile now since I saw Nick's pic and high praises of it on Facebook. I ordered it and very excited about it. I think it will complement Pastelegance very nicely. Big Grin Big Grin

Karen,
I'm glad you got Heather. It is really pretty, and I loved Nick's photos of it.
