We eat a lot of chicken pot pie around here, I think I too will try it with leeks. The spouse is not fond of puff pastry so I am thinking little squares of pie dough will work and look interesting.

Thanks for the info on how to re-heat the salmon. I'll give it a try.

Ham hocks are great, as are fresh pork hocks. Sean, your dinner looks great as usual.

Donald, I like pollock fillets, but they do need some extra seasoning to give them flavor. I haven't gotten the battered types, just the frozen ones. They usually are pretty inexpensive fish, a good buy.

I saw this on FB, thought it might be an interesting meatloaf. Hilarious!

Are leeks hard to find in the USA? We see them all over the place, often packaged in bunches. Milder flavour than onions, but can often be substituted. I don't find dirt is a problem if you look at them carefully. I find it towards the green part, rarely into the white section.

Went to the upscale supermarket that has a great deli dept. Got cooked meatloaf and mashed potatoes that I will have for dinner tonight. Also one of the delicious cheeze cakes!

That sounds good, Rita, nice and easy to heat and eat. What kind of cheesecake did you get?

We had the chicken, vegetable, rice soup for dinner last night, it was very good, with mixed salads, and warm baguette with butter.

Well, we were planning to go out of town to a potluck dinner party for the Eastern Ontario Hosta Society. Been a member for quite awhile but don't get to many of their events because the majority of the membership is in the Kingston area and that's a bit over 2 hours away. I responded, telling them I'd bring a shrimp ring and asking if they needed any Christmassy napkins, paper plates, etc (I've got a box full, left from when I used to do a big Epiphany party). No acknowledgement that my message was received. No response to 2 follow-up messages and a message on their FB page. We decided not to go. We weren't planning to come back tonight if we did go, but would have booked a motel and returned tomorrow.

So, I've got a shrimp ring (a NICE one, not one with puny shrimp) that needs to be eaten. I think we'll eat some straight with the sauce and a nice glass of wine. Then, I think I'll pull off the tails on a bunch, cook some small pasta (I'll have to see what I have), saute the shrimp in butter lightly so as not to overcook them, add garlic, lemon, cajun spice and parmesan. Green salad and chopped or sliced avocado on the side.

Ann, that's kind of rude of the club didn't respond to you. Especially after making several attempts. Oh well, shrimp is something you can always enjoy.

I'm going to see how the reheated salmon works out. I will have a baked potato and some buttered peas with it.

The shrimp was good, but after mixing up Cajun spice, I forgot to use it. Ha! Didn't really miss it with lemon, garlic, Parmesan, etc. It was good and I have enough shrimp left over to have a shrimp cocktail tomorrow too.

The DO went out for a haircut this morning and came back with a pizza in hand. Guess what lunch was! As I been feeling plenty well-fed of late (to say the least), I got to contemplating dinner on the lighter side. Shrimp toast was a strong contender (Ann, you might want to consider that. It is way good and will change up your appetizer game). But ultimately, I went with classic French onion soup, complete with two sliced of a French baguette per bowl, both nicely topped with gruyere.

Ann, a suggestion is that you continue to follow up with club. It could be, given the new year, that they're looking for a new secretary.

Tom, yahoo on the salmon reheat. Smiling

It seems that the hostess, who is also the president, was in Montreal and only got back 4 hours before the party began. But wouldn't you think she'd be checking mail if they asked people to register what they planned to bring? Maybe she operates differently from the way I do, but if it were at my house, either I would be asking someone else to coordinate the food, or I'd be checking my messages regularly. It's rare that people are out of cellular range if they are in a city. And I didn't want to drive over 2 hours, and book a motel without some sort of confirmation.

Any of you in NY getting much from this storm. We are getting hit pretty hard with about 9 inches of snow so far. Good today was an off day because many of the roads are closed including the one up the mountain to my house. Tonight was just a mix of leftovers from the last couple of nights.
