I normally do not grow cute orchids but these are really nice.

No cute in my collection!! (he said)

So... how do you describe what you grow? Weird but loveable? Enticingly ugly? Odd but colorful? Rolling on the floor laughing

I said "normally". But every now and then, I get a cute one. I can't help it! Whistling
But you know sometimes you have a speaker at a club meeting or a vendor at a show and something comes over me, or anybody. With a speaker I try to buy something if I can. Or if I spend time at a vendors booth asking a question or two, I try to buy something kind of to say thank you.
But what I do have is a love for purple and green combinations. It might go back to the old double flavored ice pops when I was a kid. I often got grape on one side, lime green on the other.
Plus Purple is my favorite color!

While I was watering this morning, I found this in bloom. And as I stated above, it is green and purple.

This plant is Zygopabstia Dragon Kitten. Zygopetalums have a reputation of being a bit more difficult to grow. They supposedly like it on the cool side and moist. In SE Michigan, cooler is easy, moisture and humidity can be far more challenging.

These flowers have pretty good shape I think. But that lip is definitely purple! Sticking tongue out

I killed a couple of Zygos through the years. They don't take kindly to our NJ Summers outside!

I'm with you on "cute" Nick. I'd describe my favorite orchid shapes as classy, elegant, graceful but not cute. Although I do have mini-Phals that I'd describe as cute just because they're so small and rounded. But the flowers individually are beautiful.

I'm also a fool for anything spotty, so your Hippodamias are really nice. My B. Yellow Bird has been in bloom for what seems like months, and I just love the shape of these, plus some of them have the pretty spots on the lip. And some don't . . . Rolling my eyes.

I'm also fond of these because they change colors as they mature - love this stage with the rosy petals/tepals and ivory lip.

Starry and spotted are wonderful qualities. Nothing wrong with those.

One of my favorite novelty phalaenopsis is just starting to bloom. The flowers are about an inch across but it blooms enthusiastically and the leaves are reddish.

Elaine, my B. Yellow Bird bloomed earlier this year. But still had that changing color thing I love.
And Nick, my Zygos stay outside year round here in SoCal. But like the cyms (almost all in spike now), they don't bloom until it we have those cooler nights in the high 30's low 40's.

Oh Ted, Zygopetalums outside year round?! Wow. Hurray!

It is a good thing that you can meet their needs. It was shockingly cold here this morning, -5 degrees.
I have not seen below zero here since January of 2019. That month I saw -14!! I thought my furnace was going to experience a meltdown!!!

I got it at Brookside a few years ago. Here's the whole plant with the rosy leaves. It's a great plant.

Great blooms and photos to enjoy with my tea this morning..thank you!
I see Zygos for sale here in Florida and always wonder if people just kill them or grow them inside Confused they definitely are cool flowers!

Elaine, I just threw out my third and last try at Yellow Bird. Sad they either have been virused or the fusarium got them.

A couple of my plants have bloomed in the past days. It's been so cold, I've not opened the growing area. Yesterday it got warm enough and I found some treasures.
