Hiyamakii, what a nice bush Summer Carnival makes! Does it always bloom that well?
I am amazed at all the mislabels you received. Your Cincinnati (?) should eventually show the frosted edges. It has not been a good bloomer here, but I have seen a very attractive display in the Northwest. Great arrangement of Pink Jitterbug!

Hawkeye Daddy, what is that white bomb that you said you pictured before? It seems to have sturdy stems.

Frank, your The Mackinac Grand is impressive. For some reason, I have never gotten plentiful bloom on the Mackinac, even in different locations. I imagine that yours has many years on it.

Absolutely wonderful peony photos. I'm so glad everyone is sharing.

I agree that Oscar has set the bar high!!

I just love Spellbound.

Wow. That vase of pink jitterbug is so pretty.

Surprised that Hot Chocolate is holding up so well on the south side of the white house after a couple of days near 90 degrees. The iris and poppies at the southeast corner have absolutely melted.

@mantisOH , I think that white peony is Festiva Maxima, but I can't be sure because it is a whole lot older than I am. It moved with me from the farm. It may look sturdier than it is, because it's got a ring of rabbit wire around it. When the peonies start emerging in the spring, I pull the winter protection off my shrubs, and move it to the peonies. You can't even see it once the leaves start unfurling. I pull it off in the fall, cut the peonies back, and move the wire back around the shrubs for the winter.

Beautiful peonies everywhere! A season to remember Hurray! Hurray! Thank you for sharing, everyone.

Here are my Central Planes woodies Smiling

Colourful Butterfly started the season. I think I understand why it's named that. The lower rows of petals are somewhat flat, resembling a chrysanthemum shape, while the upper, smaller petals stand and twist like butterfly wings. Mine is still young, just in its third year in my garden. It might be that Butterfly prefers cooler weather and a bit of shade.

Necklace with Precious Pearls has turned out better than I expected. It's blooming for the first time, and the color is a beautiful pink with a hint of coral, adding warmth to the bloom. It's fully double! I didn't expect to like it this much because I'm usually not a fan of doubles or pinks. Best of all, the fragrance is heavenly, with a pure rose and floral scent. The flowers are heavy, so this peony needs lots of food and water in the spring.

Black Dragon Holds a Glorious Flower for the first time this year. It has bloomed with more flowers in the past, but this year, for the first time, I've seen those green carpels. I suppose these are the 'glorious flowers' it's known for.

I just want to show you the difference between Hoki and Taiyo early flowers. I believe the peony in the front is Taiyo (it came mislabelled), Hoki in the back. They are very similar, but you can clearly see the difference when they are close together. It's almost as if someone added a bit of black to Hoki, making it a shade darker, and a bit of white to Taiyo, giving it a tint towards hot pink Smiling

Thanks for the thumbs and acorns.
I thought I would post a few more. Got some needed rain last night. We'll see how the upcoming bloomers faired.

'Pastelegance' is slow to grow here, but it is such a unique color.

'King's Ransome' was a gift from a friend who retired from gardening and was kind enough to send me some of his peonies. It's a really beautiful plant, both habit and flower. And quite special, as it has come from a good friend.
Thumb of 2024-05-20/magnolialover/fe722e

'Lois Choice' is an interesting one, the flower form is never the same, and each is a bit different. It does smell good.
Thumb of 2024-05-20/magnolialover/9c75f1

'Lemon Chiffon' varies from year to year with the fullness of the flowers.
Thumb of 2024-05-20/magnolialover/a3da37

'Theresa Anne'
Thumb of 2024-05-20/magnolialover/7aea1d

'Hillary' has done well the last couple of years now. This year she looks pretty good. Smiling
Thumb of 2024-05-20/magnolialover/41ef82

'Joanna Gilbert' one more time. I had this on my Klehm list for a few years, but it got booted a couple of times in favor of another Smithers peony. Like many newly planted tree peonies, it took its time to establish. In its third year here, I am pretty pleased as it has full form, fragrance and a nice pale pink that has held up in the heat.

Tracey, thank you for showing Spellbound, Lois choice and Pastelegance, those are a few I'd love to have! Ice age looks much prettier than I thought it would - do you have Theresa Ann? Are they very similar?

Oscar, you just keep raising the bar, wow!

FINALLY I have a bloom!

I think FT has a center only on young/non-mature plants, it is supposed to be full when mature. Not sure about pistils and carpels. YT buds were small this year, but my wife stopped counting when it was 40 and she did only half.

I have not updated or added to the NGA database for several years (~7 years). So I have been focusing on doing that this year. Also, I am trying to photo as many of my peonies that I can this year. The peonies are a week or two early this year and they are blooming fast now, I guess the is mid season.:) At any rate, I have not have a lot of time to post many of my photos to this thread:( However, if you are interested in seeing some of my database submissions, I think this link will display my latest peony database peonies.
