I got mine from there. Thanks for the horizontal tip, Ursula. Mine is down one tiny growth. I'm duly impressed with your Epiphronitis Veitchii v. variegata since I tried to maintain one of your plants you gave me and it lasted for years then one day took its ultimate nose dive to death. Never knew what it looked like in bloom!
Ha, I just updated my profile picture. The lean is because it was taken on the ship.
I also just got myself a birthday present. I hired a lawn company to cut and trim the yard. I was just dreading going out there in thiis heat and humidity every five days or so and spend 3 to 4 hours working on this big yard. I'll still do all of the weeding and shrub trimming but this constant grass cutting was wearing me out. I guess old age catches up with all of us.

Woo hoo, Jim, and happy b'day on Sunday! That picture must have been taken at the beginning of the cruise before you 'gained' all those gourmet meals. Starboard tack all the way back to England?
Congratulations on the lawn service, too. I find it almost impossible to ask for help especially in the garden.
My Yellow Birds are still going despite the heat, but Renate got munched by a gol-durned snail. The flower on the left is more than half gone and he ate the whole of the second spike of 5 buds. I went out with a flashlight just now and caught him, though.

Thanks, Elaine. The young fellow who lives with his parents across the street has a lawn service company and I had him cut the grass while we were traveling. He seems like a good kid so I am going to try it and see how it goes. I'm slowing down and I know it.

Two plants blooming sequentially, Ted. The tagged Yellow Bird has had 3 spikes that opened one after the other, and the "maybe Yellow Bird" has had flowers from April off and on.
I have more of the big one that I divided, mounted on a big cork raft but that one hasn't bloomed yet.

That was a very busy weekend here, Pennsy AND Seashore with sleep-over kept us busy! Relaxing today!
That Lawn-cutting service sounds like a good thing, Jim. For some years now we have a fellow cutting the grass at our place in Pennsy and it certainly freed up our time for other things. It takes about 4 hours for one person to do the job and it is nowadays great to come there and see everything looking neat.

We're all exhausted from you and Ursula being away at the same time, Jim. I have shown my few blooms repeatedly for a month to try and carry the thread, and everyone's bored with them incl. me.
I have a trip to Salt Lake looming and have to get the black plague under control before I leave or I fear I will see only dead and dying when I get back! So this weekend I've been busily and unhappily engaged in chemical warfare. Everyone's getting a douse of Bayer 3-in-1 against the scale, and I've treated the pool cage area with Physan twice now. It takes the algae off the screening nicely, as well as cleaning the patio bricks - also growing algae from all the orchid fert that falls on them.

Of course I'm partial to the tall rup Laelia alvaroana but Penny Kuroda wins the show! Tall and showy. No holding back there! My Epi Green Hornet just started blooming after an unhappy time and a change of medium. It looks identical to the Prosthechea cochleata. I should look up the invisible parent on OrchidWiz.....
Kathy, I used to drool over the scented Penny Kuroda blooms in Waldor exhibits at Orchid shows, and one day just picked one up from them. I like that it is a Summer bloomer too, just a nice bright cluster in the cage.

Penny does have beautiful bouquets, and I just love the little Potinara. I have 'Freckles' but no sign of a bud yet.
Kathy, just a small diff on my Green Hornet from the cochleata, although they are very similar. Mine has shorter, straight petals. I really like the twisty ones, too. When I feel the struggle as an orchid grower I walk by Green Hornet on my way into the house and it reassures me that there is at least one orchid I can be successful with.

Hi everyone! Jim invited me over from that "other" gardening website. I recognize some of the names on here but for those who don't know me, I'm Melanie. I live just north of Tampa, FL. My main gardening hobby is raising butterflies but I got into orchids a little over a year ago. I have one picture of an orchid that is just starting to open up. I'll take a better picture when it opens but I was so afraid of some critter getting to it that I wanted to go ahead and get a pic. This is C. Hawaiian Wedding Song x Lc. Ann Akagi. You'll come to find out I have a weakness for anything with a Hawaiian sounding name! This is a first-time bloomer for me. I thought this one would be white, but it came out my favorite color-purple! It also smells pretty good!
Ursula, the Penny Kuroda is one showy orchid but my heart belongs to Laelia alvaroana.
Let me get the bragging out of the way first thing. This is the official pic of the ribbon for Ctna Maui Maid X Mcp Brysiana. I must figure out what to do with these ribbons.
Out in the OC I have a couple of new bloomers and a couple of orchids that have filled out their bloom spike. First up is Bulb. carunculatum 'M' X Bulb. carunculatum 'A-doribil' AM/AOS.
The other new one is Bc. Hippodamia (B. nodosa X C. aclandiae)
The ones I have previously shown that developing nicely are (C. Gene May X Lc. Spoz Tabee Splash) X L. briegeri 'Corpusles'
Here is Blc. Haleahi Sunbow 'Bow Wow' X Pot. Haleahi Jewels 'Ruby Tangerine' .
Finally, my first time bloomer, Stellamizutaara Kelly 'Lea', just keeps getting better. I am enjoying the colors on this one.

We cross posted, Melanie. Welcome and enjoy. You forgot to mention that we call you the Catt Princess and you posted a picture as to why. Lovely colors on that one by the way.

Melanie, about time you showed up over here! That is one pretty purple catt.
Nice ribbon, Jim, I think you should attach the ribbons to the plant's pots so you remember who won what. Then when the ribbons rot and fall off, you know it's time to take that plant to the meeting for another prize.
Beauties all, but I'm very partial to the 'Bow Wow".
