Newyorkrita said:I usually get all my bulbs planted before November but last year we had Super Storm Sandy here and it totally got me off schedule. Plus I had ordered 5,000 bulbs and all the companies had shipped them about a week later than normal. I think they all ended up here just before the storm arrived. The week of no power threw me off, I was not planting bulbs. It was cold outside, cold in the house and the lack of electric power just threw me off. With the heat on I get cold outside and I come in and warm up. But it was cold in the house, I just waited for power to come back on.
Not really complaining, nothing bad happened to me. Lots of people lost their homes, I was just out of power for a while.
But anyway, I only started planting in November and ended up planting most of the month of November until I got done. Hated it as the ground was really cold by then.
This year I had 10,000 bulbs but I really planned ahead. Ordered from some places that would ship on September. Got those bulbs planted by late September. Made sure that the companies shipping in October shipped early October so I have time to get those bulbs all in before November also. Had to plan really as I went totally overboard with the bulbs.
It is going really well with the bulb planting. It will be two weeks on Monday that I started planting the 5,500 October bulbs.
