The frost or hard freeze or whatever we had last night killed off the last of my veggies. My beans are dead, a mushed mess and the eggplants, which were still trying to grow, are wilted and gone. Not that I was trying to grow eggplants. I had them cut way back but they were still growing. Not anymore. And those beans were producing and now they are gone. I was actually surprised at how late in the year the beans had been still going. The tomatoes are done for also but that is no big surprise for mid November.

Yes ...there's more in Other areas also... A jungle but it's safe... I give all visitors a GPS so they can find their way out if they get lost
Thumb of 2013-11-14/GordonHawk/8243d8
There's still a few things outside... The epi's are trying to flower in the cold... They don,'t seem to mind much....hot or cold is fine for them
Thumb of 2013-11-14/GordonHawk/134297
I have a 5 ft long planter with three or four of them.. I have to gather together a container to put them in inside. As that's to difficult to carry down through a 3 ft hatch on the ladder.. And it will never make the turns on the circular stairway, the dragon fruit plants are 5 ft tall so they go down the ladder nicely.. They are inside already... I 'll post their picture as it gets cleared some... Not veggies but I guess fruit things wouldn't be too OT

Gordon love the roof top jungle.

Well in anticipation of Spring around the corner I started some seedlings in my new K cup starter set up. So far I planted 56 k cups with a variety of seeds from Tomatoes, Peppers, 4 types of basil, parsley and flowers that I collected seeds from. Have two five gallon buckets with sprouted peas as well started. Can't wait til it warms up so I can play outdoors.

Marilyn...this is Wikipedia about the dragon fruit.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P... I have one with a white flesh of the fruit... and one with red flesh...Ive heard it said it's a plant you grow for your neighbors... as it will grow over a wall and will hang down flowers on the other side... Allison... OH I'm not likely to have fruit... and a bit unlikely to see flowers from it either ... but yet I conntinue with it... in the hope someday I'll have it so big and old there will be nothing it can do but flower... dispite all my lacking of it's ideal..
Yes Karen... it does seem a bit early... it depends on the amount of light you can provide for them when it does get warm... looking forward to an early Caribbean Vortex myself too...
Got a few Dragon Snake vines started already.... it's a new one for me also... who could imagine such a thing... suposedly a Chineese herbal item... although I'm not quite sure what for..

and useful I have been reading... they eat it young and tender .. later it becomes bitter ... it's taken for about everything that restores moisture to the body... and one of the proteans is used in one of the latest AIDS drugs.. I had no idea

and growing nicely...one week from it's soak and planting and already the third set of leaves...

Fascinating for sure Gordon. May you have great luck with the plants.

My K cup garden is doing well. Broccoli are about 3 inches, Agastache plant I got from Allison and collectedt seeds from have all sprouted, red basil, lemon basil and reg. basil all sprouted and doing well. Cayenne, Jalapeno peppers have first set of leaves, Black Krim and Bloody Butcher tomatoes have first set of leaves and been moved to the bathroom which is the warmest room in the house. I'll wait til they get another set of leaves before moving to larger containers. I'm hoping to get them outside early this year under my glass greenhouse domes I have. The Peas I planted Jan 19th sprouted and where planted in 5 gallon pails with a mix of potting soil, leaf mulch and compost are now about a foot tall and have latched onto the trellis setup I made. Hoping for an early harvest of peas this spring. Brought a few more five gallon pails of compost inside so it can defrost before I mix it to fill larger indoor containers for transplanting. I'm using my weekly Turtle water (80 gallon tank with two 10 inch red eared sliders)that I siphon to spray and water my plants.

So what is everyone planning for this year?

I had no time last year to tend my first attempt at a veggie garden so this year I joined a CSA, WOW what a great selection...I have to take a pic of what I picked up today, 1 of the lettuce heads barely fit in a bag
This CSA is right around the corner from me and is one of the oldest operating organic farms in New Jersey, and the oldest certified organic CSA in Jersey.

I do have 3 pepper plants that my neighbor gave me and some volunteer tomato plants. I do have to pick up a basil though, can't go thru summer without fresh basil, tomato and mozzarella salad at least once a week

I finally got my tomato plants in, 15 all together...enough for some sauce through the winter. My neighbors have a huge garden with all the good stuff so I just go over there to shop!

CSA is a great choice if you don't have the space or time for a veggie garden......my friends that own Edgewater Farm in NH started a program last year, & are really pleased with how many folks signed up......they grow tons of stuff, even grew their own ginger last year.

It really is, since we aren't the best veggie eaters...it will go to waste if I grow it...better to keep the room for my flowers nodding
