Teen, i have to agree with you about the green. They seem to mature faster than the others. The reverse can be tricky and need more sun and water than the others. I have noticed that the leaves on them seem less flexible (maybe that is not the word), but they stick out rather than droop when in some hanging containers.I do adore the little curly and can not help but wonder how you would get them to stay curly.

I have this container which used to be just for hostas..then I feel sad when they are asleep for winter..container empty looking and bare..so I decided to put one spider plant . This is the one near the faucet area. I think the plants are fighting for space..and so far a stalemate of sorts Hilarious! though spider plant thrives good, flowers coming every now and then..though hostas pouting, no flowers this year, growth smaller than before..but then again, I may have been remiss in fertilizer..me bad..but I like them both together Big Grin
Before: container just hostas

I think I should try and look for hostas that have smaller leaves..the ones I have are covering up the spider plants..but spider plant does not care Hilarious! Hilarious!

Agreed that variegation can vary with differing amounts of light, but reversion is different from that. With many variegated landscape plants, they must be monitored for plain green growth so it can be removed if one wants to maintain variegated foliage only.
Wiki has a good basic primer on variegation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V...

Good point about the Coleus though. One can buy one plant, stick pieces of it in 4 different amounts of light, and it'll look like you bought 4 different plants. Fun!

JB ~ I had one of the curly Bonnie spider plants a few years ago. If I recall, it took sunshine to keep it curly. They are the least hardy of the spiders. I had attempted to root some of the babies and they were difficult. I lost the parent plant due to excess water. It was outside and couldn't withstand a rainy period.

But I still have a few others...
A solid green which is very hardy and will die down in winter and return from roots.

Then I have three different variegated spiders.

These two...

And this one is my favorite. It positively glows in the dark.

Yes, many plants such as eunonymus can revert, but i8 must correct myself, spider plants never revert to plain green, but variegation can indeed vary
I tip my hat to you.

Did Gardenweb close? I don't think I have ever gone there? I have enough to keep up with here, Cubits and Facebook. I was looking at a wreath sold at Logees and it caught my eye because I thought the little plants on it were spider babies, turns out they are brachycaulos (must look that up). Do you know about it?

JB,
Garden Web is doing fine. I like the way this site works. I like the people here also. I am big into Sansevieria and they have a Sans forum I like. I have seen some fights start that sends people away for a long time. Fights that were often misunderstanding of what some one was trying to type. Some times we type some things that don't mean to be insulating and some people take it so. Very sad.

In the short time I have been here, I have never witnessed a fight let alone been in one. I love this place for that. There are enough forums where one can have a heated discussion. All our plants are beautiful and the only heat they need is from the sun!

Agreed! I have been in on some of those fights, and it's really a tempest in a tea cup (now that I'm away from them I can say that, lol....) But I'm not proud of getting in to them - it's just really not worth it.

Regardless, Rhamel, we hope you will be comfortable here. You appear to be very knowledgeable, and that's always great to have around!

I keep both variegated plants - and an extra. Because we have no grass here, the cats need something non-toxic to chew on, lol.... Blinking

I was kicked off of gardenweb over a petty argument over a misunderstanding. it still fills my heart with envy that other less kind people get to enjoy a wonderful site while i am banned. That is why i was pointed to this site and shortly after singhed p. This iste seems to be so relaxed and joyful. i am shure i will ejoy it here.

Maybe we should start a thread for "happy" people. I have been in those fights also, and I am far from proud of it but some people just keep pulling your chain until it starts to hurt, if they continue to do it after being told not to, then I can get really nasty, and I am not proud of that either.

I have never seen or been in an argument on ATP from day one. I think it is because the people here have not only respect for others but themselves also. I find if I am considerate , kind and respectful to others it pays off. But, when someone with an ATTITUDE comes after me more than once, I can be one mean old lady and then I hate myself for being so out of character. Crying

I also think many of the people who start those fights are very jealous, miserable, and unhappy in their lives or maybe even not well in some way. Usually if I am in a cranky mood, I will not even come on these threads or any other for that matter because I do not want to say anything that someone would take in the wrong way. I have had an experience not too long ago with someone talking "down" to me and that is difficult for an older person to be talked to like they were a child. Needless to say, I had my say on that one. Rolling on the floor laughing

Now tell me, what does all this have to do with spider plants? I apologize for getting off on another subject.

If i start a Happy People thread in the sandbox will you all come and talk to me? Lovey dubby

I did it, I opened a thread for Happy People in the Sandbox. If you want to have a laugh, take a look at my post. it is true. I hope you all start your days or end your days or spend some time in the middle of your day, getting a chuckle on the thread. I think a positive place to have some fun is a perfect way to spend some time when you get tired of working in the garden or house. Group hug
