Oh man, and I just ordered from Johnny's. I'm going to have to take the time to read this but a cold weather greenhouse variety? You've got my attention.

I could not work in the garden today. Too wet from yesterday's rain, AND it rained all morning today too. 50% chance tomorrow as well. Probably won't be getting much done in the garden this weekend!

Arlene, if it rains you get a break from working. And I think you can use a break.

I have stuff in my cart at Johhnys while I think about exactly what I want to order. It started out that I was looking for sturdy trellis netting and tomato twine. Found those then started looking at the veggies. Don't know how I stumbled upon that article but I am so glad I did. And I just had to post it so that everyone else could read it also.

The thing that really gets me interested in parthenocarpic cucumbers is growing Camilla this season. They are just fabulous. Making the old Straight Eights look like slickers. In fact they have been slackers. Nothing beats having all the cuke flowers be female and just about every one sets fruit. Rarely do I see one that didn't set. Beautiful straight large tasty cucumbers.

True, it does give me a break, if I ignore all the inside work! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I posted on other thread but I put all those varieties in my basket as well! Hilarious! Hilarious! A couple are a bit pricey though! Good thing I can sell a cucumber for $1 apiece! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I sorted my veggie seeds while babysitting today. I should have done that BEFORE I ordered from Johnny's the other day. Oh well. We usually end up ordering a few times anyway.

Parthenocarpic cucumber seeds are pricy. I found that out when I bought Camilla. But so worth it now that I go out and pick cucumbers. Now that I know there is a lot out there I never tried, I want to branch out. At this rate I will need even more new cucumber space than I have already given myself. Hilarious!

Chelle, I think you were the one that is growing the Zephyr squash? I remembered the part green part yellow fruit and thought it was so appealing. Anyway, I found seeds at Johnnys. So it is in my shopping cart also.

Too late for this year but I want to try them for next year. I like unusual. Everyone seems to have the common dark green zucchini. Well, not everyone around here as no one veggie gardens but you all know what I mean. I want to have the more rare or at least the more visually appealing.

Nope. I'm growing the Batwing, but it is a two-colored squash. My single plant has three of the little cuties on it already and it's trying to make more. Thumbs up

Oh definitely take a picture when you harvest them. I like the idea of the two colors together on one. Thumbs up

Water is still an issue, so I may get pictures tomorrow...just in case. It sprinkles every other night -just enough to start the mildew process going- but never amounts to much more than that.

So here I am working on moving daylilies from this section to out front were I have had daylilies die out between last year and this year. So an opportunity to both get the front looking good again plus gain more space for future veggies out back.

These I am moving are that first grouping (11 plants) here by cucumber ally and the used to be TB iris bed now veggie bed. Empty spot in front one plant I moved already before taking pics.

It keeps starting to rain and then stopping again, so I am really not making much progress.

I need to pull out my peas and start a new crop. They are looking like they are just about done producing.

Yeah, that last cucumber looks really nice. What variety is it?

I picked about a quart of red raspberries today. The morning glories have taken over sections of the row though so I was cutting them down as I picked. My asparagus row is next to them and the fronds have gotten about 7-8 ft. tall this year so I felt like I was picking that side in a jungle! We'll probably puree them with some peaches and make popsickles. Big Grin

You want fall peas you had better hustle and get them planted ASAP.

It actually isn't as much as it looks because at the end of the long trellis there are some melon vines that aren't producing much of anything. But next year it will be all cucumbers like it was last year. Plus I will have two more sections like the short section there across from the long section. I want to have more cucumbers!

Green Fingers. I only have two plants as I bought as seedlings in one of those small nursery pots at a local nursery this spring. But in the picture the cukes looked so good. Well, the real cukes really do look like the picture.

Oh brother. Picked more cucumbers just not long ago but since I gave them to the landscaping guy that comes and cuts my grass I forgot to take pictures. Same guy does my grass cutting that does all my hardscape projects and raised beds. I really should have gotten pictures as there were some real long whoppers of cukes today. Picked tomatoes for him also.

Now it is raining slightly again out there but I am done with the garden for today. Rain off and on much of the day. Tomorrow supposed to be very nice so tomorrow back to the project I started today which is moving a section of daylilies from the back yard to the front. Make more room in the veggie garden!

Hope it's not too late for these little cucumber seedlings that just came up. Double Yield pickler type. Since it is at least 50 days till cukes I have my doubts. But I will be planting them anyway as soon as they get big enough to transplant.

'Celebrity' Tomato plant

'Tami G' grape tomatoes. This plant has been SUPER prolific. Extremely crack resistant for us here. Not the very best flavor ever, but certainly not bad. We've been using them in macaroni salads.

'Chocolate Cherry' tomatoes. For a cherry...these things are big. Last tomato variety in my garden to begin ripening. Have not tried them yet, this is the first one to ripen.

And this is a 'Chocolate Bell' Pepper. It's the only one I'll get on my only plant, which just did not do well.

Hurray! Hurray for your tomatoes Rob! Hurray!

I see lots of cherry types. Do you go heavy on the cherry types or is it just that these are the first to ripen?

I have Juliet Grape tomatoes for the second year in a row. Large for a grape and I really like that. On my cherry tomatoes, I am growing Sweet Million and I like them very much. I really am big on production and one can really count on the cherry and grape types to start production early and keep right on going with lots and lots of tomatoes.

I ended up with more cherry type than usual because I *thought* i had lost a few due to cutworms, so i got new ones to replace the ones they got. BUT...i never pulled out the root ball and low and behold-every single plant has made a full recovery. So i have the originals and the replacements. For slicer types this year I only grew three kinds, Celebrity, Brandywine and Great White.
