You can do it in two places, The Miniature Garden Forum, or the Container Forum. They are miniature scenes in a container of some sort. Big Grin
Just start a new thread. And be sure to post at least one photo in your first post. Hurray! Hurray! I can't wait to see it. Smiling

Would the Garden Art Forum be another consideration for all the facets of his work? David, didn't you also do tile design?

Shaw, that is a good idea thanks. I will pass it on to people that are getting their roof done. I have a slate roof so I have another 50 years before my roof will need replaced but I will probably be compost by then.

Shaw, so far so good here on the roofing this weekend. All the old roof is off and repairs made and underlayment is all down. Tomorrow they are going to try to get all the shingles on. Hope they can, rain arrives later in the day. Crying
They were very careful with all my plants, bless their hearts.

@Cinta
Thank you, please do!
And just to let you know, I spit on my computer screen as I busted out laughing when I read your comment about you being compost before your slate roof needed replacing, cute one. Rolling on the floor laughing
You are indeed quite lucky to have that type of roof. Thumbs up

@valleylynn
Did your roofers come on Friday, did you find something to cover your special plants?
The gutter man came to remove and replace our gutters on Wednesday.
Hubby power washed the house and took all the shutters dwn and repainted them on Friday and my caged "Dragon" survived.
It's doing well I need to take another pic of it real soon b/4 it freezes as our nights are getting colder here in WI.

I got some new Hens and chicks from an RN coworker, they look different than mine she said their blooms are pinkish red, (prbly Sempervivum??) the leaves are pointie and a lil' bit hairy spider looking.
The rollers don't look like they are going to roll off because they appear to be attached to the Hen w/ brown thick looking cordy rooty thingys.
She's got them sitting in a clump of dirt and I don't know how to separate them to replant them.
*Gosh, I certainly have a way w/ words.* Whistling
I'll take a pic of them during the day tomorrow.
Does the term Semps refer to Jovibaras, Sempervivums and all other types of Hens and Chicks? Shrug!

Here you go Shaw, some of your questions can be answered in this short article. http://garden.org/ideas/view/v...

Can't wait to see photos of your new babies.

Roofing started Friday evening from 6:00 until about 8:00 p.m.
They worked all day today and will resume after church tomorrow. Hoping it will be completed tomorrow.

@ValleyLynn
YES, we were indeed cross posting.

I followed the link you shared w/ me, thanks so much, very informative yet confusing as I still was not able to figure out what type these are.
I figured Sempervivum as Nancy, my co-worker who gave them to me stated that they produce pinkish blooms.
The root connection to the Mother also confuses me and I am wondering if I can cut them and just set them in my rocks along w/ my others?
(Not sure if I should cut them @ the base of the Mother and @ the base of the Chick or what.)
Or, I thought I might just lay them in the rocks and the dirt will sink in when they are watered or when it rains?
Thumb of 2013-09-19/Shawwannda/cd03f4

Here's today pics of my "Dragon" it's looking a bit emaciated and is dying.
It's flowers don't look as pic perfect as the ones you shared w/ me but I'm ok w/ that since it's my very 1st.
Thumb of 2013-09-19/Shawwannda/e66150 Thumb of 2013-09-19/Shawwannda/f4859c

This one is sprouting and is curving to the left, the other one in the pic's foreground looks like it might take off too.
Thumb of 2013-09-19/Shawwannda/325fe6

These poor lil' things are prbly so confused since our nights had been cooler and now it's hot again.

What a nice colony of very healthy looking sempervivum you have there Shaw.
You can detach the offsets from the hen if they have started forming their own little roots. Plant just the roots, not the crown of the plant. If the roots are very tiny and short just lay them on the ground/fine grave, and they will find their way to the soil beneath.
Or you can just plant the colony as it is. Smiling

What lovely pale blooms on the dragon. It is always difficult to see a dragon age and start loosing it's scales/leaves. Whistling
But what a show it puts on until the end. Hurray!
Wahoo, I see at least 4 more that will be blooming. What a show that will be. Lovey dubby

All I did was just place them on top of the rocks and watered them.
Hopefully next spring/summer the dirt will seep into the rocks and they will take off and do ok.
One of them had a lil' "bud?" on it. Hurray!
*Making a mental note.... Have to take a pic of my lil' colony*
