Well...I guess we've gotten to that point...I have a frost warning here tonight. Took in a bunch of stuff that was ready, leaving some out hoping the weather man gets it wrong. I'm actually right on the line of frost/no frost, which usually means most of my plants will survive. But I hate taking the chance so most of it comes on in.

Box o' peppers from tonight's pick...

Well, Rob, I'm almost (but only "almost") looking forward to a frost warning. It has been such a miserable year because of all the bugs, and once things get that cold, maybe they'll all disappear. Nothing like that in our forecast, tho. At least I'll be able to enjoy my morning glories a bit longer! Did get to pluck a bit of zucchini and tomatoes for dinner, along with some green onions. Yum!

This idea of a second planting of cukes seems to have been a great idea. I have an entire mess of cucumbers picked today from my Orient Express vines.

My last planted cukes where those Double Yield pickling types which where planted way late. They are now full of flowers, just full. But not a female flower to be seen. These are all male flowers.

Tomatoes! Still getting a nice harvests of tomatoes.

My Hildora Bush beans. All my pole beans are done and pulled so we will see if I get beans from these late planted bush beans. But they are full of flowers.

The bean towers look forlorn with out any beans.

The Driveway farm has been shrinking as all but two of the squash have been pulled and the okra also pulled. So pots have been stacked in order to take up less room. The eggplants are still grow though. But this cooler weather is not to their liking. So we will see how long the eggplants last.

Rita, what do you do with the potting mix in all those big pots?

Do you re-use it next year, or dump it into your beds? You must have multiple wheelbarrows-full.

And you may have already answered this, but I forget: are you using soil, commercial potting soil, commercial potting mix, your own mix, or what?

Rick, I buy potting mix. And yes, I reuse it. I leave the pots full of the potting mix overwinter. Never empty them. Then for new planting I take the top third out and leave the rest. The top I fill with new potting mix.

I take that old used potting mix and put it in the bottom of a new pot I want to use for the driveway farm.

What a great idea! Hurray! ....Just leave it in there. Now why have I been dumping mine out? Duh...

Two things come straight to mind: one, the soil will warm faster in the spring; and two, it's much less work!

Here's my peas. Hilarious! I guess you might say that they are indeed hidden by zinnias!

It was good. Smiling It doesn't rank up there with Black Krim, but it was still a decent tomato. Funny thing is, we get a volunteer there every year...and it's as likely to be a cherry type as it is a full size tomato. There must be a lot of seeds lying around in that area! Hilarious!

Rita, I tried a second sowing of cucumbers one year -without much to show for it. I'm glad yours are producing for you! Thumbs up

We had the best (pink) cherry type tomato this year(!), and I'll never know which one it was. It's marked as Orange Oxheart Hilarious! , so evidently some seeds got switched at packing time.

Since I'm always here anyway, I note my sowed plants and dates in my ATP blog area. It sure is nice to have that info handy and it only takes a minute or so to update it. Have you started one yet?

We're enjoying the first real rain since the end of June, so I picked all of the large tomatoes showing color. Most of the tomato plants in the veggie patch are spent, but the ones in the yard are still covered with lots of big green tomatoes. Our cucumber season is probably over. The Suhyo plants are still there, but I haven't seen any blooms for a while now. Those heirloom squash plants are still trying to set fruit! I picked all of what was there on the first day of rain, so we'll have to wait and see if we get any more.

All summer I waited for fruit on my tomatillo plants and I got nothing. Loaded with flowers but that was it. Now with the cooler weather in September I was really surprised when I saw these fruits developing.
The plants still have flowers like crazy.
