What do you do with the tomatillos?

well, in the summer I had Cilantro (herb) and what not for making salsa verde. Needed tomatillos but none to be had. I have no cilantro now so not sure how I can season the salsa. But I just love green salsa, which one makes with tomatillos.

Couldn't you freeze the Cilantro? I love that stuff, but I mostly grow it just to look at. Hilarious! Seems like maybe if you froze it in a block of ice, you could use it later?

humm, I don't know. I was so discouraged with my lack of tomatillos, I didn't think much about the cilantro.

Ha,Ha! Rita, around here salsa goes on everything. Unfortunately, the Cilantro and Avocados are winter crops, while the Tomatoes and Tomatillos, and Chili peppers are a summer crop. Limes are just now ripe and lemons are year round. The only way to get them together is to stagger planting, and shade the Cilantro, or buy Mexican produce. We are close enough to the border that all are available year round, but not all are cheap. I grow all those except the Tomatillos in my yard, but still can't make salsa, without buying some ingredients.

Here it is end of September and I picked cucumbers and tomatoes again today. Sitting here eating a nice cucumber and tomato salad right now. I know I have never had cucumbers fresh from my garden this late ever before and often by now the tomatoes are pretty shot also. But this year the tomatoes have outdone themselves and the cukes have been just fabulous also. Thumbs up Big Grin

Hurray! Hurray!

I actually have a few straggler tomatoes in the garden that I didn't pull out yet. They're smaller tomatoes but if they ripen before too late, they will taste so good!

Arlene, I am, sure you will love them. They were the best beans I have ever grown. Will be growing them again next year for sure. Already have my seed.

Are they flowering already?

No, no buds even, but doing well. Certainly not 45 days as the package stated but that's fine.

Pineapple tomatoes are almost ready to pick in the playground area. Too, too funny that they should grow so well there...they were just plopped in a hole in the grass! Hilarious! Cherry tomatoes are still producing there, too.

Still picking assorted summer squash -had Spaghetti squash with bubbly herbed cheeses and (red!) Giant Marconi peppers for dinner this evening. Hurray! Yum!

Sugar Peas (! Big Grin ) for dinner last night! Not sure yet if planting with the zinnias is the ticket, but tonight I noticed rabbits lining up to clean away any leftover pellets of dropped horse feed. Maybe feeding her outside instead of in the stall is helpful in several ways.

Rutabagas will be ready anytime after a cold snap.

Brussels sprouts are still waiting for a good rain, I think.
