And I ordered them!
Along with some quinoa, queen anne's lace, rouge d'hiver lettuce, and several colors of chard.
And O Lord I didn't even see the gourmet section until just now... have to go get a couple more things..........................

OK, I just added Summer Savory, Hohei komatsuna (aka Japanese mustard spinach), maruba santo, and red mustard.

Now I'm hungry.

I just started ordering - was waiting to see if I got xmas money. And I DID! Angel

Have just a few plants to order later when it's time to put them in the ground. Lemongrass, Asclepias amplexicaulis (Sand Milkweed), and a wonderful yellow peony I ran across somewhere.

David, those red mustards look great. I Hate the fizzy leaves of the green ones I tried. But mostly I hate the peppery taste. Not for me.

critter- We will be looking forward to reading about your tomato canning adventures this summer.

You have a lot more ambition than I do. I have never canned and I am never going to can. I do freeze sauce, stewed tomatoes, cut up green beans and things like that.

The tiny freezer on my fridge only got me to mid December this year. I priced chest freezers before I decided to can.

It seems to want wet soil, so I think your daily showers would be good.

USDA Hardiness Zone: 4-9 (Zone 4 at a minimum, maybe even colder)
AHS Heat Zone: None described
Chill Requirement: Since skirret is a root crop, a chill requirement is rather irrelevant; however, this plant does appear to produce better in areas that are a bit colder. Also, flavor seems to get better with below freezing temperatures.

I have a chest freezer in my basement. Very handy to have!

I know.
IF I had a few hundred more dollars, I'd have one in my basement as well!

As it stands, I'll be freezing beets and canning tomatoes. Maybe a chest freezer is in the cards for next season....

Thank you David. I do love to grow my veggies!

critter, I make my own stewed tomatoes in my crockpot. It is so easy to do that way. Then I put them in those plastic deli cups and freeze them for using when I need them.

Sounds like a good plan.
I'm going to can mine just stewed, unseasoned, and have them to "customize" all through the winter.

@crittergarden watch Craig's List free ads. I got a freezer for free because the people wanted a frost free one. Nothing wrong with it either!

I actually bought some reusable canning lids and rubber rings, just like the old fashioned ones they used to use. Got tired of not having the lids on hand and they have gotten so expensive. I haven't canned in years but I will be this year.

Yes, this way I can use the stewed tomatoes in many different dishes depending on how I want to season and cook down.
