The only one that is correct is the first photo.
We will see what we can find out about the other two entries. Smiling

Lynn, I have one that looks like the 2nd picture and it came from Simply Succulents. I have relabeled mine as a NOID. Thanks for investigating this. Thumbs up

Thank you Chris for the information.
So now we do know that the second one is officially a NOID. Please, if any of you have this one, change it to a NOID in your records are collections. It will be deleted from the database today.
Sighhhh, they are such lovely semps. Sad

We have a change for S. rupicolum. It has been merged with the entry S. x rupicolum. You will still be able to find your plant searching with the name S. rupicolum, as it is a synonym of S. x rupicolum.

S. x rupicolum is a natural hybrid of Sempervivum montanum × Sempervivum wulfenii

Was looking at pictures and noticed that 'Dark Cloud' was listed as a tectorum. Since the pedigree is unknown and was in the batch of seedheads that included NO tectorum to my knowledge, I don't think this is a proper designation. Certainly there is no collected tectorum at all like this. Similarly I don't think a plant should be called an arachnoideum species cultivar unless it is a verified to be that. Even in nature it's difficult to tell things =that contain SOME other species.

Anyway I'm not pointing fingers, but that's my opinion!

Kevin,

the old chronicles say that the mother of 'Dark Cloud' is S. tectorum 'Atropurpureum' and some specialist say that the tectorum-features are dominating at 'Dark Cloud';

I'm no specialist in identificating natural forms....but that is the reason for the categorization;

I know that because of the unknown pollen-parent there may some other gene in it.....

Peter,

No Polly planted the seed heads from 8 different flowerheads from dark semos placed next to each other so they would intercross and they were all open pollinated. She planted the whole mix and there were several thousand seedlings of which 'Dark Cloud' and 'Plumb Rose' were selected. I don't know who put that information on it, but that's wrong. S. atroviolaceum 'Heimlich' was ONE of the 8 possible parents.

They both appear to be a type of tectorum. There are so many for different places around the world, not sure how you would sort it out without a DNA test.
I have 'Royanum', but don't have 'Birchmaier'.

That is just one place that is saying that.
Checkout Horst site, he shows both, as does Peter's site. http://www.semperhorst.de/Dieh...
http://sempervivum-liste.de/

They are saying this: "Possible synonyms: 'Birchmeier', Birchmeyer'".

This is a relatively old topic, but as a new member to this forum, I have some questions regarding Sempervivum. To what botanical/taxonomic reference does this forum refer to for currently accepted species of Sempervivum?

Is there a recognized world authority on the genus, or perhaps major Floras that cover species in places like Europe, Turkey, the Caucasus, or Central Asia? I've looked at my usual "go to" world taxonomic reference which is The Plant List (itself a compendium resource of several taxonomic authorizes: Missouri Bot Garden, Royal Bot Garden, Kew, and others), but for Sempervivum the vast majority of name entries are listed as "unresolved/unassessed", which tells me they haven't worked too tackling this genus, so in this case The Plant List is not very helpful.

I'm looking at this forum's Sempervivum Reference Sites on this forum and looked at the Semp species list, now looking at other links. The link for SEMPERVIVOPHILIA is broken, so I googled to find a new link, the following link works to arrive at the International Sempervivum forum, if indeed that's the updated name for that site:

Note: I guess with my NEW membership here, I'm still in the "probation" period where the forum does not allow me to post links, so I'll expand the link, you'll have to put it together:
