Tarev - beautiful!! I will try those again someday soon. Last time I killed some was in the 90's, in my overwatering peat days.

Cliff, last night it was almost pure white. This morning, it's much more pink. The gold foil wrapper that was on it may have confused the camera a bit? The buds do look yellow. Your plant is awesome!

J, it's all a matter of personal taste, but Oleanders just don't do much for me. I hope they DO a lot for you! You probably don't need me to tell you, sun, sun & more sun. There's a few of these in my Mom's yard that are now shaded by a pecan tree and they are pitiful. A cryin' shame somebody put them there. Not at all like the tall-as-the-house specimens around the area in full sun.

I can't wait to see what kind of flowers these funky new Kalanchoes make.

@purpleinopp, I love those plants that "followed" you home! The Kalanchoe 'Fang' jumped out at me. A friend gave a couple of 'fuzzy' leaves to me about a month agoโ€ฆTold me to just lay them on soil, and they would root, but she had no idea what they were! They have rooted, and I was hoping they'd get more growth before I posted them to the Plant ID... Blinking I think you may have ID'd them!!! Tell me what you think! In your opinion, are these what you have?

Tara, TY! Yesterday was the first time I've ever seen this plant, so I don't feel qualified to answer your question at all. The leaves on the one I got feel fuzzy, more fuzzy than an AV, and thicker, stiffer. Does that describe your fuzzy leaves? Making a plant by laying a leaf on the surface is definitely Kalanchoe-ish behavior (but also that of so many other sux.) I searched other pics of these last night & the leaves change shape somewhat on an older plant - if the pics I saw were accurate.

Whatever they are, they're cute as can be!! Can you get a pic of your friend's mama plant? Has she seen any flowers?

Something was nagging in the back of my mind when I was posting earlier - K. millotii.
Millot Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe millotii)
A lighter green leaf, without what looks like differently-colored points to me at the edges. I just added a pic of the flowers too. After seeing the mama, hopefully it will look like one or another more clearly than your cute little fledgelings.

Ginger, hi & thanks!! I want you to keep that basket, if you want. I was given a stack of probably more than I can use next year. I'll bring another one ready to hang when I get something ready. So many plants here would love to hang around your awesome yard!

I think the big cutting looks better every day. More of the existing leaves toward the tip are hanging more upright. The other one is still firm and green, resists gentle tugging. Surely it would be mush by now if it was dying. I know they don't like the cold. The pot they're in is inside but we keep the house pretty cool. That pot has the most primo-light spot I have. I wouldn't know how to tell which might be which until they make some flowers?

Stuck one of the pieces of morning glory bush (I think that's what you said it was) in a pot and it's growing inside. The ones I put in the ground next to the house are still green, high hopes! The other stuff looks good too.

I should be repotting some plants but it's so gray, blah...! Hope you & your dogs are having a great day!

Thanks! It's a way to cheat & have many more actual plants, but not more pots. Still well under 100 @ the moment. We will see if it stays that way. I've been repotting, re-arranging, & snagging stuff that was in the ground, cuttings. Not technically new plants, but newly potted...

Should get through to spring when they can go back outside. So some outside plants are house plants for a few months. Need to start work now on shady spots out front where dogs can't trample tiny cuties like these. And apparently some spots are prone to flood if it rains for 2 solid months again, those spots need new plans that don't include Begonias!

"Saved" the last plants yesterday I could from drowning/freezing later this week. I'm finished plant shopping for the year now, though have a box of trade plants to pot up today.

Variegated Hoya, always wanted one of these!

Tiffany: Very nice!

I see in the database but no entry for cultivar 'Tricolor', you should submit a new entry for that one.

I have a Crassula nudicaulis var. platyphylla that turned real orange in color from the sun but I prefer how it looked before direct sunlight with just the darker edges. I have three photo's in the database. http://garden.org/plants/searc...

That's a really healthy looking Krimson Queen! Krimson Queen Hoya (Hoya carnosa 'Tricolor')

and that Echeveria moranii is so pretty with the purplish leaf edges! I couldn't find that one in the database either so a new plant entry needs to be submitted so you can upload your great photo's!

Nice Jewel Leaf Plant (Graptopetalum amethystinum) too!

TY, Lin, you did some of my homework, awesome!! I found the Echeveria and added a pic, there wasn't one yet.
Conchita de Totolapa (Echeveria moranii)

Can't wait until that Hoya can get rained on to get rid of those spots. Today would have been good but this plant does NOT need a drink for a while.

Well the database entry in company with the label on my one plant are confusing. Is C. obliqua a species or cultivar name? I thought obliqua was an outdated synonym for C. ovata, but jade investigation isn't my thing. I think this is the same plant as this:
Jade Plant (Crassula ovata 'Lemon & Lime')
with more color from being outside.

Isn't it fascinating to watch these little things 'change colors' in the summer? Much more fun than waiting for green lumps & bumps in the yard to make a few short-lived flowers.

Here's the pics of the trade plants I promised. I have no idea what most of them are. What fun to watch them turn into 'real plants' (assuming the sun comes back at some point soon...!) I'm not off the tropical foliage wagon, but have 2 wagons now, these sux have some kind of hold on me.

A lot of these are Rhipsalis.

The pot on the right was existing, but I left it in this pic for my records. It's all stuff I dug up from the yard to save for a few months of cold except the Callisia fragrans. I brought some of that in for the blooms. It can survive here, but I don't know if it would bloom outside here. Since I don't spend much time outside in Feb when they seem to be at their height of fragrant wonderfulness, and that scent is more than welcome in the house!
Thumb of 2013-11-26/purpleinopp/a441b0

No, I didn't water them yet, just potted up loosely, not tamped tightly. The potting mix isn't as dense as it looks but the bag was out in the rain (oops, I should have put it under the shed roof.) Everybody looked thirsty, so it should work out well. A lot of stuff was cuttings, so had calloused over & went easily into the loose mix. Wish me luck & some sunshine, please! TIA!!

Tiffany: Now I'm really confused about Crassula. Green Grin! I went to the Catalogue of Life and it shows:

Crassula ovata
Synonym: Crassula obliqua

Crassula perfoliata var. minor
Synonym: Crassula obliqua

So, it looks like there is no C. obliqua, that's just a synonym for those other two Crassula's. I'd say your plant is definitely C. ovata 'Variegata' as shown in the database and I hope you'll upload your photo there since there's currently only one picture!

Wow, great bunch of plants you got in trade! Fun how some of us grow the same things. I've had a few Rhipsalis for a long time; flowers aren't much to speak of but the plants are interesting. I also have Portulacaria afra grown a lot since I got it about two years ago and a String of Bananas (Curio radicans) Here's the link for your variegated one: Elephant Bush (Portulacaria afra 'Variegata')

TY, Lin. It seems common for growers to disregard what the renamers are doing, still labeling things 'Coleus' and 'Dizygotheca' and 'Dipladenia.' It's safe to say I'm not a fan and am vehemently against that. But anyway, after following the name trail one must now seek for every plant, using multiple and sometimes conflicting resources, that's the conclusion at which I arrived. Sadly, some plants have no name at all while 'they' are busy giving other plants with perfectly good names, new ones. Confusing the heck out of everyone and creating an unnecessary info gap.

I think I see now why the cuttings I got before of string-of-bananas didn't take root. Just like a string-of-pearls plant, there's aerial root nubs occasionally along the stem. If it's not possible or very difficult to get roots at other nodes, that's what happened. I didn't see those on smaller pieces I was sent the time before.

These Rhipsalis are cool! Just stick it in the dirt & it grows more 'green sticks.' What's not to like about that?

Hey you, yes you. Just because your newest plant may be a year old doesn't mean it's not still the newest. Let's see more pics!

I didn't get any new plants yesterday but found this guy last night. I guess he's hitch-hiked inside at some point recently! I've seen smaller but he's daggone cute!!!
