The art part of me says I liked the fade from ATP into the banner.
The neat part says I like the concise lines of the new layout.

me too, vic!
I'm in Chrome now on the desk computer. The font is tiny. It was normal on the iPad.

Okay, in the preview, it looks normal.

That's it in a nutshell. It's so easy to navigate. I like it too, Vic and Leon.
And for newcomers, it's all right there and up front.

Checking in with iPod from down by the pond while walking the dogs, using WiFi.

Liked it on the Mac. Not so much on the iPod.

Over on DG, where I seldom go anymore, they changed things recently, which left large area on left side blank, shoving threads to right. This has caused a lot of complaints over there.

On the Mac the new format here did not make much difference, but on the iPod, even turning it landscape, the threads are pretty tiny now, with the space on the left.

Unlike there, though, I am able to zoom to fill the screen, then scroll, but would need to do that with each forum or thread.

The new font helps to see the tiny size, though.

I don't think I had to enlarge with the old format. But this is first time accessing ATP on iPod after all the eye surgeries too...

I had some issues on the iPod and iPad before with the floating menu bar getting stuck in my way in the middle of my screen. Does not look like that would happen with this layout.

Back to walking...

I agree with this. When I want to search for something, I don't want to search for the search bar. I also miss the floating bar with my personal links. If I have to scroll the page looking for my links I might as well just use my favorites bar on my browser.

Need a space between thread watcher and forum watcher. Being against each other makes it harder to see.

In reference to what Sharon said, I keep looking at the "square" ATP logo on the left of the banner. If you could keep the bottom line straight but have the right side fade into the banner, that might look pretty cool. It's not a deal breaker, just a thought.

This feedback is all so useful, thank you all very much. You're the best beta testers in the world, really.

I'm going to address the things that get brought up here and hopefully nothing will fall through the cracks. I'll be back in time!

Took a while to read through the comments and then check out what they were talking about, only to find things already rearranged. Truly a work in progress! Cool to see. I, too, like the prior fade to the banner - I thought that was easier on the eyes and rather artsy.

I'm apparently still in the stone-age because I've always used IE and never had any particular problems (perhaps I just don't know what I'm missing). Anyway, all looks good to me.

Just finished catching up on this thread. When I first came on it was not set up the same as when I finished reading all the posts here.
In that time Dave had already fixed all the concerns I had. Hurray!

I do like the idea of the logo fading into the banner. And it looks like the new configuration may call for longer banners? Or would the fading in of logo take care of the overlapping banner photo?

What seems to be missing for me is the floating menu bar -- is that still there but not on my screen? I'll try to go look up that little tutorial on making screen shots and post what is showing for me.

My first reaction was that I LOVED the old floating menu bar. It was always onscreen for me, or a flick of scrolling brought it up.

Having the custom menu buttons on the left DOES make more room for them, but I have to scroll around to find them. I know I'm very lazy!

Tentatively, I would vote for the artsy banner-fade, even though I usual prefer functional and clear over pretty.

But I'll get used to them.
