Thanks Pirl, The majority of my iris came that way too so I don't have names for a lot of them.

I started last fall redoing the bed that astilbe is in so maybe I'll be able to find someplace where it will look better.

The pictures off your patio are so lovely! What a beautiful place to sit and relax.

Thanks, Susie. Now if I could just force myself to sit now and then it would be grand.

It's a shame that we don't have names for many of our beloved irises but appreciating their beauty is often enough for me.

Names give me a headache. So much time spent keep names with plants. Never use to keep names until I started on these garden sites. If you don't have a name many will not trade with you. I have bought most of mine on Dee's sale or the PNW iris sale.

No echoes here just iris and daylilies. I mixed iris and daylilies in these beds, bad idea. They require different fertilizer and growing conditions. I have lost about 5 iris to rot. Have to re think this as to what I'm going to do. This should be on the bad list!

Names are a problem and some folks get irate so I don't like trading them.

So often I've said it's not a good idea to mix plants that love water, like daylilies, and those that prefer dryer soil, like irises. If the water conditions don't send the plants into a tizzy then the irises grow into the daylilies.

They are still lovely beds, beautiful colors and so nice and neat. The fencing is also attractive and not an eyesore.

Thanks, the fence is on top of a big concert wall. This will be a project for September to separate the iris from the daylilies. Live and learn. Sad

You did a very nice job arranging the heights.

Live and learn means the chance to change sad to happy and add plants that enjoy the same conditions as the irises. How about lupine? They hate wet feet, love sun, bloom at the same time. Same with allium but check the dates they bloom to get those that will bloom with the irises, not before or after as I did with one allium.

Could you bear to move one daylily a day until the job gets done?

pirl said:It's why I try to take a shot of the astilbes I photograph with a ruler, so no one has to guess the height.

It said in the database that these get 24 inches tall and when I opened the picture I saw Iris in the background. I used the Iris as a size scale and I assumed his were full grown. They sure look well established and well fed!

Beautiful Iris everyone! I had a couple mixed in with my daylilies, mainly from trades and one from a co-op but they never bloomed. Just got smaller and smaller and when I dug them up there was no rhinzone to speak of so I threw them away. I only have the one Iris bed and I give them bone meal and they thrive. I did not do well with the name thing either. LOL.
@springcolor, at least yours did bloom and they are beautiful. @pirl, I love that pink Iris!

Arlene, I'm going to redo the whole garden. I need to divide some daylilies in an adjoining bed that you can't see in that picture. I'm thinking of Sempervivum with the iris and sedum. Well there not named sedum anymore but they will be always sedum in my head. The tall ones did a name change. Blinking Love all the purples.

Susan, love your iris!!!
Jennifer, that is beautiful, such rich gorgeous colors.

jmorth, thanks if that compliment was for me.

Ok I'm a bit confused with names here. abhege is Arlene and pirl is Arlene too? Jennifer I think you are a daughter to someone. Maybe one of you will T-mail me and get me straight? Confused
