Those were just memories from one side of my family. The other is another. Sophistication doesn't always win in the eyes of a child.
My simpler rural family are the ones that left the scars of love and simple beauty in the midst of hardships (unknown then as a child) that will never fade in my mind Ann!...

Love those Orchids Elaine!

(Someone will have to tell me the story of "the girl from Jupiter with no arms" someday so I get it! (am I being dense or just late to the draw? Ha!) Hilarious! I tip my hat to you.

Thanks, David! I was wondering if I was the only one who didn't get the 'in' joke about the girl with no arms.

C'mon, girls! Let the rest of us in on the joke please?

My favorites are starting to bloom again, third round of blooms this year for these! Bl. Yellow Bird

Oh my, Hetty, What a beautiful picture! Personally, I think I'd be enlarging, and looking for a really nice frame! Thumbs up

Yeah, I was kind of out in left field on that 'inside' joke as well!

Gorgeous Yellow Bird, Elaine! What's the Bl. ?

Okay. Here's the inside joke...... One day on the daylily chat thread we were talking about pets & sofas & the fabric & colors in regards to having pets or something & so I posted this photo of my hubs & myself. This was taken 20 or so years ago when we were sofa shopping. We found this sofa we were pretty sure we wanted but had more stores to check for sofas so we had the saleslady take a photo of it so we could remember it well & compare to others we might find. We were sitting on the sofa. (We did end up buying this sofa only in black & we still have it). Anyway, I had my hands in my lap & you can not see them. Since I had on long sleeves, my arms blended with my body & my hubs made the comment that I was the girl with no arms. We have joked about it all these years. So let that be a lesson to all of you when a photo is about to be taken of you. Make sure you pose correctly! Hilarious!

Actually, if you look closely, just above the knee on the bottom, you can see my finger. I do this all the time.... cross my legs & stick one hand between the two legs. My hands tend to get cold & that helps me to warm them up.

Lovely sunrise shot, Hetty, and I love the couch picture and story Ann.

Tara, the Bl. is an abbreviation for Brassolaelia which means that orchid is a cross (one of thousands) of a Brassavola and a Laelia. You don't want to get me started about the ridiculous methods they use to name orchids!!

In truth we felt rather awkward having our photo taken in the furniture store. Hilarious! Hilarious! And you can see that I really felt weird b/c I had no arms! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

The lettuce looks good. Think the Kale will be OK but the spinach does not look very happy.

Anyone ever seen these? I've had them at least 10 years. Used them up north to get tomatoes & zucchini in at least a month earlier than any of my neighbors. 2 layers of plastic in tubes. Fill with water. Absorbs heat during the day & keeps the plant warm on cold nites. The green beans inside these are 3X as big as the ones sitting next to them.

@qwilter Nice pics. Yes, I've seen those collars for plants and wondered how efficient they were. I'm glad to know they really work! Thumbs up Thumbs up

Yep, I've tried them too. Wall 'o Water, right? How the heck do you keep yours so nice and clean?

Mine grew algae inside and were such a pain to clean with a bottle brush that I gave up.

I also had plants grow out the tops, and failed to cover them on a frosty night (in Utah, not here). Lost the tops of the plants and all the flowers, sadly.

I wish that someone would come up with ginormous ones to fit over LARGE POTS. I have to leave some of my inside plants out until we can get back to FL and just keep my fingers crossed. Putting them inside the garage or the house won't work becuse if I do that, they will die for lack of water --- Sad Sad Sad

If you set clear jugs of water around the big pots, in the sun they will do a similar thing - collect heat during the day and help keep the plant warmer at night. The foliage might be nipped by frost, but the plants would stay warmer. The bigger the jug, the better it works, since a larger mass cools slower. The cells on the Wall o' Water things are fairly slim so they cool off fast.

We buy the 2 1/2 gallon jugs of drinking water for hurricane season, then after we drink the water I fill them with tap water. They are heat sinks for my orchid shelf units. Their weight helps keep the shelves from blowing over, and sometimes I add coffee grounds to the water so that it heats up more.

I have a couple of those plastic GH & they are very useful.

I've never cleaned out my tube things. Maybe its all the additives inthe water that keeps them clean.
