Good morning, you will all be happy to know I had an email from Jim, he said to tell you all hello especialy to "ole whats her name" wonder who he meant. He doesn't get on the computer much as he is just too tired, he is still tending his plants when he can and doing some jobs in the yard that needs to be done but he gets tired very easily, I know how that feels, so in case he is reading these posts be sure to tell him HI.

Well, goodie for you, Doris, and a great big "Hello, you old what's-ziz-Name" to you might know who.

Now if we could get that other man to come back...

Cora, the babies are in about a 60/40 mix of perlite and peat, heavy on the perlite. I decided they were'nt deep enough, as they wiggled around too much while I was 'taking off their caps', so I added a thin layer of straight perlite to hold them still.

Y'know, this system is a loooong discussion, without different subjects, like ... Is there any other active thread in the Adeniums forum? I'll have to go start one with a diary of raising this bunch of young'uns.

I am new to this board, and pretty new to the Adenium world, pretty thankful I found you folks too! I am wondering if anyone would be able to recommend a fertilizer for my Adenium? I am not positive, but I thought I read the middle number needed to be higher? I am not sure if this is correct, or what fertilizer is best for these beauties. Your help is most appreciated!

I use Miracle Grow or one of the big box knockoffs. For growing a high first number is ok,even desirable but when they reach flowering stage, switch away from the high first number. For larger plants I like organics like composted manure.

Tropicals
Hi, everyone.

One day, I polinated my adeniums using a long-bristled, narrow brush. It worked. I got 4 seed pods, which yielded about 160 seeds. As soon as the pods opened, I cut them off the plant, separated seeds from fluffy fibers and soaked the seeds overnight. I then planted the seeds. About 150 of those seeds sprouted in 3 days. I loved it.

Take care, all.

JT, isn't composted manure often high in nitrogen? (Lisa, The first number)

Many boxes of fertilizer like Miracle Grow don't have The Numbers written easily seen.

I use a bloom booster, which is something like 15-35-15, adding Muriate of Potash, umm, two spoons of Bloom Booster and one spoon of M. of Potash, which is 0-0-60, but not soluable. My year olds have nice caudexes, and the babies have fat 'stems' right off the bat. I got 100 year-old seedlings for the Botanical Gardens here from a grower in Puerto Rico who uses "stable bottoms" and his plants don't have caudexes at all!

Chemists!

I'm going to write to Jack's and ask for an Adenium fertilizer!

Photos in a few days, I'm still recovering from a Tropical Storm, Irene , which is headed sort of toward the States.

Hi, Sylvain! Fun having babies, are you starting a nursery now? teehee!

Wilfred got a Yellow! very faint, but definitely yellow. I'll just have to send him a snail mail...

The smaller flower just opened today, the larger was small, has grown since opening.

Melissa, composted manure isn't high in anything. The NPK numbers are actually very small. The real benefits come from all the micronutrients.

OK, JT. That must be the case, as things do grow so much better in compost. And there must be thousands of micronutrients, more than Spray-and-Grow's seventeen.

I got some seedlings from a grower in Puerto Rico who uses "stable bottoms", and they were all leaves, and just about no caudex. I think he said he planted the seed about a year ago now. Stable bottoms must have a lot of the wet stuff included, for all that nitrogeous looking growth.

Where I volunteer, in the nursery at the Botanical Gardens, I was hearing folks squalling, "Don't you have any Desert Rooooooooses?" So I got these seedlings.

Now I hear them squalling, "They're all PIIIIIIIIINK??"

Sheesh!

Yes, St Croix is loads of fun, especially in hurricane season! Just kidding. Pretty sea, goofy people, I like it OK, most of the time. Coconut trees, it doesn't snow here. OK, more later...
