Hey all I'm still alive and well just busier than all get out JT I am real glad to hear Ann is doing well and Doris I am sorry to hear about the storm damage. But I must say I wish ya'll would send some rain our way here in Houston we are in the middle of a long drought I can no longer use the lake water for my plants because the pump suction is sitting on dry land. I have been watering with city water like crazy in fact my last water bill was $126. But I have two gardens and the greenhouse and two huge flowerbeds all watering on automatic sprinklers trying to keep them going. My wife and I have been dragging hoses all over the yard watering trees. The grass crunches under your feet. And now with the temp hitting in the high 90s its getting harder to keep up. The funny thing is as dry as everything is we still have high humidity. I have managed to keep somethings alive. Thumb of 2011-05-31/rucky/b7da10

Rucky good to see you posting, this is what my BLOOMING Plumaria looks like now, and some of my large DRs the golfball size hail nailed them good.

JT, I hope that Ann continues to get better. Doris I'm sorry to hear about the hail damage. You have been taking quite a beating weatherwise. Hopefully, things will get better for you, and may your DRs and plumeria make a quick recovery. Rucky, I feel for you and hoping that the drought ends soon.

Ok Doris I'll take it. I figure it'll take at least 4 inches of rain just to fill in the cracks in my yard and then another 4 to put some of the water back in the lake. so send it my way Thumbs up

Hi, I am new to this forum and love what you have going here. I was looking for white DR plants when I stumbled upon this cubit.

I am wondering if I can still get DR seedlings from http://cubits.org/ellasgarden/...

Hoainiem, that's a beauty! Some Adeniums are getting so extremely bred that they don't even look like Adeniums any more.

Welcome!

Yes, I agree, Melissa. I like the old single blooms of Adenium. Now I just want some white Adeniums.

I love your adenia! (or is that adeniums - plural of adenium). Whatever.

Are you going to have another group buy like last year? I would like to try growing adenia, but think it would be best to get started in the summer because they would have to overwinter indoors here.

Sorry that your plants got pelted by hail. We wait so long to finally be able to put our tropical plants outside in cold zones. It is frustrating to see them damaged. A bear knocked over a bunch of small flowerpots while I was away this weekend. It was strolling past the patio on the way to my neighbor's bird feeders. (I call them rodent feeders because they cause an explosion in the rodent population - voles, mice, chipmunks- Arggh) It could have been worse, the bear "did #2" on another neighbor's patio. My patio is covered with winter sowing containers, perhaps that spared me.

Andi, you are a very determined gardener!

I would c-mail JT and get some plants from him. He sent me my two plants still in their pots, and very well packed for the trip through the mail. They just hiccoughed, and kept on growing. Other plants ordered from other places came through the trip in various stages of misery.

I am wrestling with leafy, rootless seedlings that had a terrible trip here from a nursery only a hundred miles away. They were sent in full leaf, but ripped out of tiny cell packs. I thought bare root, but recieved rootless. Have you ever potted up 100 plants? A lot of time! They might have been OK, but my boss watered them Tuesday, and here came the rot! Wheeee. I could tell he watered them because he wandered around with a 'guilty puppy' expression every time he saw me. They were quite soaking wet.

The little plants are in an odd condition. The leaves seemed to be OK. After a week being in individual pots, the leaves were turning toward the Sun. But with no roots, and soggy potting mix, the rootlets, the few, were rotting. The bit above the caudex, what I would call the main stem, is strong and firm. The caudex is shrivveled and rubbery, emaciated by the leaves still growing and taking moisture and nutrients from the caudex.

SO!! I dumped all of them out of their pots(4 inch) and put them in community trays, with barely damp mix. Dusted their bottoms with a copper fungicide. I then set them under the misting tables, no wet for them with plastic laid over their heads, and full shade. Should be 100# humidity under there. OH, I trimmed off most of the leaves.

What would you have done????????

If they haven't started roots in another week, I guess I'll rip them out of the trays, slather on rooting hormone, and put them back in trays with dampish medium, 30% perlite, 70% Promix.

OK, two photos, JT's white that he sent, and the 100 babies that I'm torturing----

.One year old. The caudex only just uncovered. After this, I covered all my younger plant's caudexi's with medium, so they could get bigger bottoms. The blooms are mostly white, sunlight burns the older blooms pink, a very nice electric pink.

.
Unhappy babies!
