They sure are Rita. And looking very healthy too. I'm sure that's in part due to the feast June puts out. Hilarious! Hilarious!

I have never seen a live turkey in person. Not even the domestic kind. It must be so wonderful to see those wild turkeys.

That rather surprises me Rita. I know you did a lot of traveling in years past & I think I recall your saying you & your hubs used to go camping ?upstate?. I just assumed you had run across wild turkeys.

Oh when I was in my twenties with my first husband (who died young) we camped a lot. Went on camping trips and we had camped all the way from Key West to the north side of Cape Brenton Island in the east cast of Canada.

Visited many state parks and wildlife areas. But to the best of my knowledge, I never saw a wild turkey.

Well, I never saw one in person until I moved up here. Funny how things happen. I must have seen a zillion possums in my life but never witnessed one "playing possum" until I was in my early 30's.

Rita, I'm not surprised you didn't see wild turkeys when camping. They're really difficult to see in the woods as they are very wary birds, and well camouflaged. I hear turkeys all year, but rarely see any until they start coming around in the winter looking for bird seed. To get a pic of them on the bird table, I had to creep up to the window and very slowly raise the camera. If they see any movement they're off and running, and they disappear into the undergrowth in a split second.

But big birds are still rife. Hope these Bar-tailed Godwits and Silver Gull will do - taken while I was collecting some oysters for dinner tonight.

That is smart of the turkeys as otherwise they would be too easy for hunters to shoot. nodding

I got such a kick out of the banter here about wild Turkeys. It reminded me of a short story I had heard on NPR some time back. I did some searching, and finally found it on PRI. A story about a wild Turkey on Martha's Vineyard in 2008 on a show called This American Life…It's a short one…I think about 15 minutes. I recommend it. If you'd like to listen to it, it's here… http://www.thisamericanlife.or...
