Thank you Julia. Sure hope the 'Oddity' seedlings gain some color as they mature.

Here are the three 'Oddity' babies. Two are rather hairy, one is less hairy and shinier.

I sat for a little while on the deck and pricked a few out of the jug and planted them in a flat. I'll keep them on the covered deck where I can mist them as needed.

Some of the bigger heuffelii seedling have roots that go all the way to the bottom of the jug. Some are definitely hardier and faster growing.

I am so amazed at the variety of the heuff seedlings, even from the ones I have carefully self-pollinated. Of course the ones I have chosen are ones where I knew what crosses Bill Nixon did. and was trying to see what things segregated out from the combinations of them. As you remember, there were only THREE heuffs when I was hybridizing as a kid. Now there are so many wonderful ones.

Anyway, fun things and they make such sturdy little plants. Several of the seedlings that I rowed out in the spring of '13 have BLOOMS and have made clumps of 6-8 rosettes, I have given away some gorgeous ones. Think Patty got a couple.

Anyway, I would definitely row out the heuffs. There should be some nice ones.

I am trying Kevin, not sure I will get them all planted out. Funny thing is, the ones with red leaves don't seem as hardy and are very slow growing.

Lynn,

I do see some interesting segregations in the heuff seedlings. If 'Henri Correvon' is in the pedigree I get some huge and very vigorous greens but also a few reds that are huge and vigorous too. In these crosses I'm also getting some very small reds and some very tiny greens. These generally have the form of 'Giuseppi Spiny', which is the red parent in the hybrid used in the cross. The genetics of this seems to be simple in that red is dominant to green and you get 3 reds" 1 green in the F2, just like Mendel said they should! Size seems to be controlled by more factrors or at least not a simple Mendelian ratio.

Could you define "rowing them out" Is it simply moving them to a new planting bed? Or is there more involved?

Separating them from the container and planting into a nursery flat. I don't have anymore room out in the raised beds. Sad
I need to put a new bed over by the woodland, out of full/all day sun. Hurray!
