Bev, So sorry you lost your babies! But yes when they are little they need LOTS OF CARE. Keep them MOIST during that time. I even lost a few in one bed where the soil sort of crisped up too quickly. Their tiny roots couldn't take it. I'm sure in the Alps the seedlings are getting constant snow melt moisture and they are growing in cool crevices. Hard to emulate those conditions in the garden.

Kate, 'Silverine' is a great parent. It is a parent of several of my early introductions. It's only drawback is that it;s a bit of a slow grower.

Sorry to hear you lost your seedlings Bev :(

Kevin, my parent plant was 'Silverline' as opposed to 'Silverine'. I'm not sure if 'Silverline' has made it across the pond? But it does tend to be slower growing than some of my other semps. My arach seedlings got bigger much quicker, but I've not pricked them out yet and the growth rate seems to have slowed down, possibly due to over crowding.

Kate,

Yes, the arachnoideum seedlings are always quick. The cobwebbed seedlings that I rowed out in May have increase already.

I don't know 'Silverline' and my brain just automatically read 'Silverine'! Internal editing obviously. What does 'Silverline' look like?

Bev,

Well the god thing is that NOW YOU KNOW how delicate the seedlings are at that stage. I've lost my share of them too, Any little bit of dryness during that stage and they are TOAST.

OK off to bed!

Lynn,

That IS 'Silverine'. Someone just misspelled it and it became a new cultivar!

That is what I thought Kevin.

This is what they have for Silverine. http://sempervivum-liste.de/Se...

Now that Peter is gone I'm not sure who to talk to about these two plants?

Lynn,

I think we can note it on our lists as not a correct cultivar name and also forward this information to the other sites. But you're right, we need Peter!

I have sent a message off to the Sempervivum-Liste team, to see if there is some one that would work with us in verifying semps.

I took a photo today of one of my little seedlings. It is such an unusual color right now.

Nice Lynn! Do yuo know what plant it came up near? That will sometimes give you a clue.

I guess we'll be calling you Lynn "Skrocki" Smith from now on!

Did any of the 'Oddity' ones survive???

Mine are finally blooming well and I have stalks on'Borscht' and several of the huge purples from 'Micah' X 'Killer' that are going to be crossed. My 10" black might be just around the corner!

I do not know where in the beds I got the seedling from. I should have made a note. *Blush* It looks like it may be acquiring water markings.
I did find a few more seedlings this last month, and I was so careful about not letting seeds escape last year. There were a few blooms I missed.

I have three little bright green seedlings from 'Oddity'. No color showing. I will get a photo of them later.
I also have another small pkg of seeds from 'Oddity'. Wonder if it's to late to try planting them?

Lynn,

If you stored the seed in the refrigerator the seed should still grow. Keep them in the shade or start them in your kitchen window or porch so you can keep an eye on them.

Good luck with the 'Oddity' kids. They could still turn red or purple next spring as they don't really get their mature color until then.

I will keep my fingers crossed for color to appear next year. So far the leaves look normal.
I'll plant the seeds in flats and keep them on the covered deck. There is a table against the house the would work well for that purpose.
Thank you for the information Kevin.
