Hi Jim, how did the meatloaf turn out?
Today the rain was so cold that it was mixed with sleet for a while.

dave- meatloaf turned out better than expected--recipe called for milk but I used beer instead---(well, it was handy-actually it was in my hand)- ----

horrible day here-wind- rain-cold- actually played darts on the patio last night with the neighbor with the new patio heater on full blast-worked pretty well, but the wind kept blowing the darts around. I think one went in the pool!

as you can tell I'm really busy here with NOTHING to do until warmer weather......

Dear Jim, They are dormant during the summer. Tulips won't rebloom next year without a long chill time in the 30s, so if you plant them in the ground it will be too warm. Could try potting them and putting the pots out in the cold next year, but maybe next year we won't even get any frost. I worked for a greenhouse here in apopka and we would force bulbs, after potting they were put in the giant cooler for a couple months to sprout in the cold.

Vernalization: Subjection of seeds or seedlings to low temperature in order to hasten plant development and flowering.

Goodgreen said:hate to say this but, looking at the long-range forecast on underground weather .com looks like these cooler than normal temps may last through MAY....then good for the rest of the year. 2011 is supposed to be warmer than normal.
just shoot me..................................

well, I went to lowes today and picked up my supply of mulch. Haven't had to mulch in a couple years, so its pretty well gone. Loaded down the el-camino with 30 bags. It looked like one of those low-riders. All that was missing was the radio "booming" as you drive through the neighborhood real s-l-o-w. Thats what I'm starting to do tomarrow. Clean out the beds before our next blizzard hits--(hope not!!)

I've been here since 1971 and know it is not uncommon to have late Feb/early March freeze/frost so I usually hold off until early March. My birthday is March 1 so I like to treat myself to new pruners/loppers for my BD. LOL

I do buy my mulch and potting soil by the truckload from the bulk place the landscapers use.
Cheaper than the bags and they load it with the bucket thingy. When I get home I just pull the wheelbarrow up to the tailgate and unload it as needed. Since I have a soft snap-on tonneau, I just leave it in the truck bed and use it as needed.
