It is one I never did get an ID on, I should pull out my Calif. natives books and see I can't find it.

Sorry Susie, no idea what kind, sure is pretty though.

DD, it was so unreal looking when I first saw it, especially being so red. I took the second habitat shot just to show how odd it looked, this bright red among all the green.

I really like this photo of lichens, which are very much a part of the landscape in the alpine zone, among the rocks and clean air (some lichens are sensitive to air pollution). The yellow one is Cetraria cucullata or maybe C. nivalis, and the weird white fingers are Thamnolia subuliformis, I think. In the background is Silene acaulis.

Edit: This is in Kananaskis Prov. Park, Alberta, west of here... just before treeline, where it starts getting really good!

Love this thread.
Not a big fan of just barren huge rocks (they do look cool, but I am a plant lover after all.
I fancy that Phacelia, and the Indian Paintbrush, and all the others of course.
But I wouldn't ... taste... the lichens Smiling

@gg5 Greg, you misunderstood, I said "my son posted it on FB" I didn't say it was "his" video". Blinking Blinking If I had to worry about him off doing stuff like that I would probably look 100 years old! Hilarious! My son is the day manager at a climbing gym. Lovey dubby
