I was hoping the snow gods or Mother Nature would take a hint....they didn't. It is snowing again this morning. The good news is the temp is 30. Big improvement over the below zero stuff...at least it's warm enough to have some fun outside Smiling

Beautiful sunny day here this morning with no wind so far. Hope the temps rise and warm it up a bit.

Natalie, I don't blame you for not going outside when the weather is miserable, I don't go out either except to feed and water the birds. The hawks have arrived, Glare had to chase a persistent one a few time yesterday, luckily he missed each time he tried to grab a bird.

It got really cold here last night, 14f degrees an mostly cloudy and we could get a snow shower or two. Thumbs down

Its sunny and almost 50 here right now. Was planning on doing some clean up of the greenhouse winter destroyed but it is windy as well. I guess clean up will have to wait. I bought a new greenhouse to replace the destroyed one. I'll take the new one down before winter next year. It's just not designed to handle the wind I get.

We have hawks as well. A big red-tail hung around all winter, but we have seen a younger red-tail and a coopers hawk hanging out in the yard. They are really beautiful. Mom has a fit too when one goes after a birdy. I think they help to keep the chipmunks and bunnies in check so they are welcome to stay.
It's my cats world, I'm just here to open the cans.

Come to the PNW everyone. Today was sunny and 55. The 60's are expected over the weekend and they say that Monday we'll see our first 70 degree day of the year. I spent the day out in my garden. Still chilly in the evening, but at least there's no frost.

My mom used to complain about hawks going after birds at her feeders quite a bit. I told her, when you put out food for the little birds, you've basically done the same for the raptors. The little birds show up cause they see an easily obtained source of food...the big birds show up cause...

She saw my point and now accepts that the hawks got to eat too.

Having spring-regret here ... just wait y'all ... suddenly everything is Bursting with growth - weeds, huge shrubbery, trees grabbing the neighbor's roof, more weeds, and already three full lawn mowings. I'd forgotten how much it can be a pain to get back up off the couch and out into a garden that threatens to quickly run amok despite my valiant but weak attempts at harnessing it with gardening tools.

Sticking tongue out Sticking tongue out Sticking tongue out

dare I say it ... I wouldn't mind a burst of snow and winter hibernation right about now ... I'm used to seven months of winter (Minnesota childhood), not just three short ones!

Yesterday early morning, I drove through new snow and a complete whiteout for a few miles. When I left work, it was 56°, and by the time I arrived home, it was 49°.

These were waiting for me in my living room.

Tina, I know what you mean, at least with regard to weedy stuff. I spend way too much time pulling up the 50 bazillion Cedar Elm seedlings that could be better spent playing with flowers. But I already have too many saplings growing up and through shrubs and established perennials and such in places where I wasn't so diligent. In some areas, I am going to have to dig up everything to get those things out and THAT is going to be a major pain in the anatomy.

We have hawks visiting our bird feeders too but they usually go for the pigeons which I would rather not have at my bird feeders. They have the pigeons flock under control and there is not as many any more, which I am glad for. Now all the songbirds can at least eat the food I put out for them.

robertduval14 said: Me, I blame Canada. In years past they did a much better job of keeping the arctic air in their own backyard...this year they've been sharing far too much...

Most of our weather came from Siberia this year, something about air masses from Siberia slipping across Alaska, the Yukon and the North West Territories and down deep into the north american continent. Where I live, most of our bad weather comes from the American mid west.
