I have two (or was it 3?) other historic yellow NOIDs that I got from the Monterey Bay Iris sale last year and the year before. It will be interesting to see if they're the same.

Well, it had been tattered by the wind after all. Debra, it is a beautiful iris. I love the BIG beard.

Just this one because it was already wind/rain battered and I thought a closeup of the beards would help with identification. I won't do it again, Mary Ann. Lovey dubby

Well -- ok. Sniff. It's hard for me to visit Iris hybridizers because the blossom of the pollen parent is discarded -- just lying on the ground in perfect beauty -- unloved, unwanted, used and discarded. Crying I couldn't be a hybridizer -- I'd have all those blossoms floating in rose bowls around the house -- and I'd have to keep every single progeny, even the ugly ones. Shrug! nodding

Bonnie's right -- the beards are huge!!

I agree Mary Ann. You probably have to go about hybridizing with a scientific eye. And throwing away and ugly little iris??? One of our better known growers in the southern part of the state recently said that after paying a lot for a certain iris and having it not bloom for three years he pulled it up and threw it on the compost pile. groan. one of the members of our society, I will not mention any names, refer to him as the 'iris murderer'.

Rolling on the floor laughing Hilarious! Rolling on the floor laughing The Iris Murderer!!! Green Grin!

Can you mention the name of the Iris that disappointed him Bonnie? I know that some of them take awhile to settle in..........I sure would like to have been hiding behind his compost pile about that time!! nodding

I was actually in shock at hearing this otherwise nice man, and a pastor to boot, admit to such a heinous act that I cant remember the victims name.

Of the blossom parts, the tiny edge of the petal showing yellow might be another clue. All the different photos of it could be helpful for suggestions.

Peculiar season. This clump has some of the more expected heights, but a bunch of them are very short. They look perfectly healthy, just have never seen that here before.
