We found a copperhead in that turtle once

I guess it is cool under there and those voles and frogs stroll by

My seven-year-old wanted me to explain what everything was and when I told her you'd made them yourself out of things you found she was entranced. She loves making things out of things, too. I have sneak away old milk cartons and plastic water bottles and shoe boxes she's brought to her room while she's not around or she'll put up a fight!

I did a couple of hours of weeding and mulching this morning before the real heat moves in. Heat index is supposed to push 100 over the next few days and with the lack of rain in this area I figured some extra mulch would help.

I was outside around 8 AM and weeded until just before 11. I came in drenching wet. I am going back out and pull/dig the carrots so that I can stay in where it is cool and can them. When I get them out of the raised bed, I am going to pull up the rest of my beets and get them canned. This evening when it cools down a little I need to pick peas and green beans and check the cucumbers and zucchini. Everything has been growing so fast thanks to the 3 inches of rain we got recently and the heat. I really wish the weeds would slow down. DH is just now getting home. Maybe I can get him to help me with the carrots and beets. WE WILL SEE!!!

Here even the weeds look bad with the lack of rain and this heat.

I did manage to get most of my phlox deadheaded yesterday. It's been so hot and humid that I'm just picking small chores that need attention and will get to the others when it cools down. My weeds are looking great! We've had some nice rains this last week so I haven't had to water much.

So much needs attention but it's all I can do to just water my perennial garden. Any chores go to the veggie garden. All my trips this month have led to plants that need to be deadheaded. But that means bagging things to gather seeds so I'm putting it off. Today the roofers come and new roof by end of day. Now I must escape to work and pray they are gentle on the landscape.

Got up, drank two cups of coffee and decided that it was a good morning to spray some round up and weed eat. Less humidity in our area today but it's still hot. I'm glad I got that done (hopefully for this year). I will NEVER EVER plant a trumpet vine again! Those things never die, do they? And they seem to do better when you're trying to kill them off! Grumbling

I got you beat...our whole neighborhood is like that! But, unfortunately, they've all reproduced kids with criminal records of some sort!
