Hello. I'm new here. Love irises. And this site.
More than 20 years ago I visited a renowned gardener in our valley (now deceased) . I came away
with a variety of irises that she was thinning. Over the years, many of the others have stopped blooming,
but this one thrives! I've forgotten the name. Can anyone please help me with it?
Thanks.

Welcome Jan! I don't know a thing about Irises and I'm really bad at comparing photo's for identification so I can't be of help but it looks like one of the Bearded Irises to me and I bet someone on the Iris forum: http://garden.org/forums/view/... might recognize that beauty!

Welcome! Jan, from a fellow Californian just south of you! Thumbs up

Hopefully someone will recognize such a colorful beauty that is over 20 years old. It's very striking and you got a great close up of it too. Did you know the name in the past so that you would possibly recall it if someone comes along with some possibilities?

On the ones that stopped blooming, did you ever divide them? That would help refresh them and they may start blooming again.

Welcome!
Beautiful mystery iris! Do you have any idea where the gardener was getting her iris from? I know it's a long shot, but different iris farms carry different varieties. May narrow the field.

Hi Leslie Welcome!

I've seen your posts, but I don't think I ever said "hi". Love the iris in your profile. Thumbs up

Thanks Rob! It's Grateful Red.

@janwax: I think it might be the tall bearded called Megabucks that was introduced in 1990. You can compare it with the pictures in the database and see if you agree.

Anyone else think this is a possibility?

Leslie,
I think it looks like Megabucks, just as you suggested. I would vote for that. Megabucks was a very popular iris. I have seen it for sale many times over the years. I do not personally have it so cannot attest to the growing habits that seem significant to this iris in question.

From the Database I see several members have this iris(Megabucks). Maybe we could hear from one of them.

It really is a beauty and does look like Megabucks! For comparison, scroll down and check out the photo's of 'Megabucks' in the database: Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Megabucks')

Hilarious! I grow it but I didn't even recognize it. I lost the tag and it didn't bloom this year.

Calif. Sue - Thanks for the welcome. I'd forgotten that I signed on here in April. It's
been a very busy couple of months and this morning I got a new grandson! 7 lbs. 9 oz.!

(o.k. I promise I won't get off topic too much) However the piece of pottery in my new avatar
(I made the cachepot) has a shade of red in the glaze that I'd like to find in an iris. I make vases in those colors and I think a red iris would look great in it.. Enjoying seeing all the
iris pics here and they are so tempting. I've already overspent my budget!

Calif. Sue - I've since done some sleuthing and I'm pretty sure it's an iris called Gladys Austin . 1985
Now I'm wondering why I've forgotten how to upload photos here - since I uploaded some in April!
