I find those "wire cages" quite suitable for some Orchids.

I really like your 'contraption' too. I think even I could make something like that. (it's a trap, if I make one, the Resident Engineer will snort with disdain and make me 3 more that are better . . Angel )

I want to have more of my orchids hanging up this summer. They both grow better and are less disease and bug prone, it seems. Plus I can see them better as well.

Elaine, I have a roll of white wire cage, must have bought it some years ago to keep Rabbits out of a border. I just a cut a piece with a wire clipper and bend it to size, hook the ends over. Great for Stanhopea type blooms which get stuck in smaller mesh.
And some plants just do better with the added aeration, I guess.

A man I met in tropical Queensland, Bramston Beach, let me photograph his blooms. This one had "Little Angel" on the label. Angel

On the bird, I'm guessing southern cassowary.

I jut packed ten bloomers in the truck for the orchid club meeting tomorrow. Probably no ribbon contenders except perhaps for an Encyclia tampensis with about 100 flowers or so. I wanted to take the big Mcp. grandiflora but the flowers have begun to fade.

That is a nice orchid, Glen. I'll try to run down a name.

I have a Potinara Burana Beauty! Maybe that's why I like Glen's pic so much. You can see what kind of orchids I tend to gravitate toward!

Jim. Yes a Southern Cassowary. The orchid man, Charlie, by-the-bye, feeds them after cyclones when rainforest fruit is destroyed and they starve. Then he has to wean them off human-supplied food at the feeding station. Needless to say, he couldn't find me one.

Here are some more of his blooms. His gardens cover 3 acres among rainforest and along a creek. It was butterfly heaven, after which, I was run off my feet trying to photograph them. I still haven't learnt the trick with them Melanie.

Such lovelies there, Glen. Yes, butterflies are a challenge to photograph. I am beyond running after them, and just wait beside the plants I know they will visit. Patience over footwork works for me. My garden has a nice population of the Zebra Longwing butterflies. I think there might be one somewhere in this shot . . . cool days when there isn't too much breeze work best, too.

Those are beautiful! And yeah, butterflies can be hard to photograph. I tell everyone for one good shot I take many bad ones. Plus, I have the advantage at MOSI where they are confined to a limited space. It's definitely getting too hot to chase them - I almost passed out on Sunday. And today my dad and his friends were cutting up a cherry tree that had come down in a cemetery (he's a woodturner and wanted the wood) and his blood sugar got so low he said he "almost did a Melanie". He actually drank a fully-leaded Coke (not Diet). Be careful out there, folks. It's getting hot and you know it's only going to get hotter.

Just enjoy this. LC Ann Akagi H&R. It's warm rain and dreary, so I started another Charlie Moon books and this fragrant orchid is making it impossible to read my favorite book series.
