Question? When my daylilies, or iris for that matter, begin to grow in the spring, the brown stuff that I cut down to maybe an inch or two last fall seems to wrap around the delicate shoots causing them to crunch up inside and not be able to spring free. When I try to get them out I invariably break them. What should I be doing and when to make sure that the new growth is free to, well, grow?? Confused Confused

I have had mine do that too Mary. I wouldn't worry about breaking them. They will come back for you. Just don't break off any scapes. They won't come back. Gee I always accidently weed wack a fan or two but they usually grow back.

I'm finally getting around to posting more pictures. Lots of blooms, but most days only 1 or 2 additional cultivars start to bloom. This is one SLOW season!!
It's really great to see the pictures that other people are posting. Lovely blooms, everyone!

This one really does not count as I over wintered it inside.

Just love all the beautiful blooms. My wish list is getting out of hand! We had such an unusual winter here in Houston that my daylilies are taking their time growing. I've only had 3 to bloom but have over 60 scapes so I'm exicted. Here are my three:

Aloha Hawaii - I just love its pastel colors

Big Sur - I can't ever go wrong with any shade of pink

Portofino - Can you tell that I love pinks!

Beautiful blooms, everyone! I just love this time of year -- it's really like Christmas each morning when I go outside to see what's in bloom. But unfortunately it's become overwhelming now and I can't keep up -- Help Meeeeeeee...

And even more importantly, our weather is about to take another nasty upturn starting tomorrow, and this time I'm afraid it's going to reach 100 -- VERY BAD for pollinating! But hopefully this will only last for a week or so. I haven't even gotten to see blooms yet on my new goodies from Floyd Cove and the Trimmers - bummer! But that show is just about to start -- maybe I can at least get some pollen...

LOVE GOD'S WAY (Tim Bell, 2014)

TET. TERRY LYNINGER - This one really is this brilliant color - Wow!

CUTTING LOOSE - I waited a long, long time to see a bloom on this one, and I was pretty unimpressed with the first bloom -- but this second bloom really made my day!

LINDA BELL - What a beauty -- and it was a gift plant from Tim Bell!

Wow, Betja, you've got a lot of flowers there! Love your Cutting Loose and Linda Bell. So many gorgeous daylilies, so little space.

I only had one today, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, which is a newbie, but what a treat to see her!
