I have that Brunnera and it looks just like mine which is Jack Frost. I tip my hat to you.

On May 10th my 'Sum and Substance' showed it's first renewed signs of life, and now just a few days later look at it, I am so pleased it made it back.

Went around taking progress pics of the Hostas, I will try to name most of them some of them I do not know the names of.

AlboMarginata: Easy to see why this is such a common Hosta, it does so well here.
Thumb of 2014-05-23/Seedfork/b5be03

Francee: This Hosta has progressed in a phenomenal fashion, loving in so far, just the second year
Thumb of 2014-05-23/Seedfork/4a344b

Patriot: So far after three years this plant and ones related to it have had to really struggle in my garden, but it put on an amazing growth spurt early this year.

June: Very pleased with this second year plant

So Sweet: Another Hosta that has really done well here

Pizzaz: I have several of these and so far they are all lagging behind in performance, but they are very young plants, they were planted late in the year last year. So too early to judge.

Seedling: I used these to make a border, they are like most plain green hostas, very strong plants. Looks like they are all sending up flower stalks.
Thumb of 2014-05-23/Seedfork/32fbbc

Not sure about this plant, suspect from the way it is growing it could be another Francee.

Elegans:

Zounds: This plant was one of my first hostas and it has really struggled to survive, but this year it has multiplied and three of the plants are actually looking pretty strong now.

August Moon: This plant flowered very early, and it is one of my newest Hostas, seems to be doing pretty well.

Bressingham Blue: Returns early, but never seems to multiply much, always looks healthy though.

Barbara Ann: Looked very nice with good growth early, but was almost destroyed in one night by slugs, it had many more leaves early on.
Thumb of 2014-05-23/Seedfork/9fb42f

Fire and Ice: Only the second year with this plant, I always feel it looks frail and weak, but it really has done pretty good. This is a very bright hosta.

Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.

AlboMarginata - Fourtunei or Undulata? Albomarginata simply means white margin.

I think the damage to Barbara Ann is cut worms, not slugs.

As far as your gift plants, I think the first 4 (and maybe the 5th) are in the Undulata family. Undulata itself has quite a lot of white in the middle. As it becomes Undulata Univittata, the amount of white diminishes and the all green version is Undulata Erromena. The 3rd pic looks as though it might be a young Undulata Albomarginata.

Good write-up here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H...

Well, Fourtunei or Undulata, I really don't know. None of the plants are very large, the leaves are not huge, but not tiny, they do have a little gloss to them but not what I would call shiny. The plants do tend to have a somewhat upright appearance to them, they don't lay down flat exactly. That is all that was on the tag when I bought the plants, what would you say it looks like?
Would you believe all those tiny little gift plants are over seven years old? They were in the bed when my neighbor moved in over seven years ago, don't know how long they were there before.
Could have been seven more years. That is why she gave them to me. When I dug them up I found the problem, fabric weed barrier. It had prevented the roots from going over a quarter inch deep, and had kept any new growth from breaking though the barrier, it was 4 layers think in places.
I am really looking forward to seeing how much they grow over the next year. I hope to be able to return some hostas to my neighbor much larger than when I got them.
Thanks for all the info.

Sorry to bring up an old thread and I realize Gerry hasn't been around in awhile (hoping someone else can help if Gerry doesn't see this), but what is this Hosta? I bought one as a NOID last month and it looks just like this. Thank You! I tip my hat to you.

Wish I knew. But hostas change colour so much in spring that it's worth watching for a couple of months. See what colour it settles down to - likely much less yellow. Also, how large is it? And if we still aren't sure, we'll look at when it flowers and characteristics of the flower - shape, colour, fragrance, etc.

Thank You! It's quite a large leafed one, but I don't have exact measurements. I'll keep an eye peeled for color changes and flowers. I tip my hat to you.
