Blooming in the garage - one single bloom on Epiphyllum x Ackermannii. It's alive!

Gorgeous color! Got my fingers crossed that the weather doesn't change, as I have tons of buds on 7 of my 9. It's supposed to bve a bit cooler next week, but I think spring is here. Lovey dubby

My daughter has been using my greenhouse to revive a few of her houseplants and I noticed that the goldfish plant has done exceptionally well growing in the cool conditions. When I was at the POS orchid show this Janurary, Dan Newman of Hang Gardens had some species Columneas (goldfish plant relatives) for sale, so I bought one. It's now in bloom and, I think, absolutely spectacular.

Columnea flexiflora, the flowers are about 3" long and about an inch across at the mouth. The buds are very dark red, the open into brilliant flowers.

Unfortunately is looks like a stick with a few leaves and flowers on it. I'll try to get an overall shot tonight.

Thanks Neal. I don't know this plant so I want to have a pic in my mind when I hear about it again.

I have seen Jatropha podagrica growing in several places in Brazil, they were interesting looking smallish bushes.
Is yours still leafed out this time of year? Mine have now lost all leaves.
And how many seeds were bombarding the neighborhood? Big Grin
I see mostly the male flowers in your picture, and a female flower at about 5 o'clock.

Haha. Yes the first time I had seeds, they popped all over!! But lately it hasn't produced seeds. My leaves are falling off but they come and go without a real pattern. Never knew to look for male and female flowers. Thanks, Ursula.
