Group hug Group hug Group hug Missouri to be showing their beauties soon! Yay!!! We are seeing less blooms in the early-start states, so it will be grand to have some new cultivars to learn about in the rest of the country or countries.

The next exciting thing to happen is the first seed pod! After trying for over twelve years to get seed pods on that clump of yellows above----and getting nary a take----I found eleven seed pods on the blasted plants! I kept trying more modern, later season cultivars that I could get in pots early enough to pollinate my early seedlings. I avoided Saxton's old Spring Purple because I thought it would burn in the sun and I was trying for a slightly more modern form (like 1980s??). Found a seedling of SP and dabbed that pollen on my yellow and red seedlings. Bingo. Of course the pods may do what wild ditch lily does, form seed pods that wither and drop and never contain seeds and if they are fertile I could be over eighty when the cussed things bloom, but what the heck-I got seed pods! Brought the SP flower inside this morning as little bees were stripping the pollen and it fluffed out nicely and I dabbed some more pollen.

Hurray! Hard to believe 9 weeks ago the ground was still deeply frozen with snow on top and today I found a scape...and another and another. So far about 10 of them on select seedlings and in the first year to bloom seedling bed!

Good luck with your seed pods Weedyseedy and welcome to the Daylily forum Smiling

Even old Ed Murray is sending up scapes now; but not all clumps. I'm wondering if tet Ed is different from dip Ed as I may have both. Bought the first decades ago the other a couple years ago. The very devil to get seeds from but I have a bunch of seedlings that may bloom (from which??!) and one several year old seedling that is being crowded but I can't make up my mind where to move it. Does anyone think the plants bloom a little earlier after being divided and getting established for a year or two? Or do smaller clumps bloom a little earlier? I'm not too happy with "Ed Jr" as he burns in the sun.

Still only 10% of cv's have scapes here in 7A and normally the bloom season starts May 30th. We were hammered all winter with ice storms and a few major hail storms and no clue if the repetitive ice is the cause of delay. Then a few weeks ago hail the size of golf balls shredded foliage. Who knows when this bloom season will ever start but I'm seeing shorter scapes on some of the taller cvs. I'm glad to have some prebloom on new arrivals so I can at least see something.

Here is the 2nd bloom of Gnashing of Teeth taken @ 8:15 tonight, which endured a downpour all day and the bloom still perfect. Color is much deeper than this. I feel like I should stick it in a cooler with dry ice to look at in case I don't see another bloom this year. Smiling

Here is the second bloom of "Fame". At least no squirrels chewed this one, unlike the last. I have a few others 5 or 6 that have scapes and buds. They are all planted this spring, so I am really excited to see any. Although some of the fans I received are so small I wonder if they will even bloom next year. Blinking

This one isn't Great but it is all I have seen so far so please bear with me, lol. *Blush*

Hilarious! from burning and bleaching, to wanting to prolong in coolers for a lasting look, this year sure is one where the fleeting moments of their one-day appearance is keenly felt. I want a huge fan blowing cooled air in the back yard to keep alive all the buds that I fear will never bloom now that the 100's have arrived. Each one is tracked and accounted for ... each one.

So nice to see the daylilies blooming here and around my city. I have scapes on Spanish Glow and 2 other unknowns. I think one is Lemonn Vista.
