Well, I couldn't make the crosses I wanted to, no polen yet. Guess I have to wait another day.

no pollen yet.. well, good luck when they do have pollen. Do some irises have pollen sometimes and then the same iris not have pollen sometimes?

Well, they tell me it's best to wait 2 days for the pollen. This one was only one day old. There are some cultivars that just don't produce pollen I guess. I know this one is fertile, but just needs another day for the pollen to develop. I'm not an expert here, just learning.

I think hybridizing would be difficult enough without tossing in timetables and irises that may not produce pollen when you need it. I guess it is a great reward when you make a beautiful iris. more iris adventures.....

Can you dry and save the pollen? Freeze it? I have with daylily pollen and it stays viable for some time.

I know I can save the pollen, but the problem was there was none to save. Should have some tomorrow or the day after. Hopefully there will be a fresh bloom then.

You will surely enjoy it Ken, It's a rapid increaser. Last year was the first year it bloomed for me, and this year it has 4 bloom stalks. Best part is, pictures can't do it justice!
