I've never seen them locally, these were bought online.

I've sworn off fuscias. I kill them every time. And that spot doesn't get enough light for most things. Geraniums would never bloom there.

I don't know why the soil stays inside the holes, but it really doesn't fall out. The soil just settles in and stays put.

You all have inspired me to go all out again next year with coleus. Remember the first year that I had over 100 and Kustov blew them all away? After that, I kinda tried to put coleus out of my mind. Well, with all of your photos and the wonderful colors my coleus brought me this year, I will have coleus , impatiens, and verbena's in most of my beds.

And Jo Ann, since we had all of the rain last week and the last two days have been a little cooler, my lantana's are starting to bloom again.

Back to coleus. I have absolutely enjoyed my Red Planet this year, for the color and the way that it doesn't droop when it gets thirsty. Sun or shade, it's always pretty. Do any other names come to mind that perform that well.

If you still have tempret warm climate inside cutting back might work.
Coleus tend to hibernate when temps cool off so pinching back might not produce more branches as it would in the regular growing season.
If you decide to cut them back ,take those cuttings ( as many as you want for plants next spring) and plant them in seperate pots of potting soil. They wont need much water and will continue to make roots and slowly grow until the following year.

dahlianut, have you overwintered Coleus indoors before? I'm curious because I've had terrible luck in overwintering established plants, but the cuttings I bring in perform beautifully under lights.

too much of a temp change Neal?... I find the best time to bring plants in.. is when there is no heat or air on.. inside & outside the same temp.. then the lack of real sun doesn't seem so bad to them

I never thought of the "equal temp" issue. I just bring cuttings in to avoid a frost or really low night temp.
I have done cuttings 2 ways. I would take cuttings in late Aug. and root them on pots outside on the deck for a month ,then bring inside.I have also rooted 3 cuttings in the same large pot and taken cuttings from them all winter. Saves pot space.
#2 I have just taken cuttings and started them in the house. I preferr the first option as estalished plants fare better in my growing situation.
Dont over water duering the winter. BUGS.

Could be temperature variation that is my problem. Or it could be that the established plants are rootbound and I can't keep them watered enough. Just saving cuttings does cut down on the space required, but there are a few big ones I just hate to see die.
