The gnats are still in the house. I'll try Camphor.
Its really hard to sit on the deck and look at my favorites and not be tempted to take cuttings.
Maybe I can get DD to do it.

Moths come from too much watering - let theinside plants from cuttings, get to the droopy stage before you water inside.

What is coir?
I didn't know that withholding water would help with the gnats.
I still haven't decided whether I will try doing cuttings indoors. Sad
My coleus are still growing. Hurray!
Should I be fertilizing them?
Well it won't let me download a photo. Going to find out why. Sad

You can also add regular drugstore hydrogen peroxide to the water. I use half a cup of HP to a gallon of water.
This also is good for plants that have been over watering.
I am on vacation in New Mexico and have not seen the first coleus.
My babies are being tended by a sweet gal in Okeechobee.

Oohhhhh, a plant sitter. How wonderful.
We are in drought season and in the 90's now. My coleus pot looks wonderful inspite of full sun and very dry air.

valleylynn said:Allison I have never seen anything like your Bonfire around here. The foliage is so different, it fascinates me.
Could you start me some? Do I have something you would like?

I just took a photo of the Red Head coleus that I put in my coleus container yesterday. It's the red one. Whistling

I don't have any seed started varieties, so I'm not seeing much flowering. The exception is Sedona. I have a few of them and they're trying to bloom. I'm fighting those.

My Sedona did that last year, too. But after I started a new cutting in fall, the problem solved itself.

Jo Ann, have you ever tried using a systemic insecticide on your indoor plants? It has worked well for me.
http://www.bonide.com/products...

I don't use it outside. Don't want to chance poisoning the good guys- birds, bees, etc. I usually only use it when starting new cuttings or when plants have been outside.

Yeah, I think you're supposed to reapply every 2-3 months. I don't do it though, (or haven't yet) because by that time I have no bugs to deal with. If I were to buy a new plant and bring it into the house, I'd treat the new one and isolate it for a while.

Thanks for the info.
Its just too much tending for this old body. 3 years and its lost its romance.
DD is going to take cuttings and raise them in GS bedroom. I'll swipe some in spring plus look for the Rosy Dawn classified in Jan. They offer coleus at 1 buck off.
