I am so sad all of my Stanhopeas died. Those blooms are just outstanding even though they only last a short time. I have no experience with the Anguloa Dubia but those blooms are really nice. Nice show, Ursula.

Don't be sad, Jim, sometimes we lose them truly through no fault of our own. I have had on occasion 2 plants of the same, bought even from the same vendor, one thrives the other one dimps.
Try again from a different source perhaps?
This was some kind of a fungus infection. The plant on the end of the rack started to rot and the rest of them followed like lemmings. I lost 6 Stanhopeas in a row and there didn't seem to be a thing I could do about it. I am a little hesitant to go that direction again.

What a great looking GH, Fred. I love the Otaara. I once had 10 of them, and meant to keep one for myself, just to see it bloom, but somehow or the other, I seem to have sold/shipped them all.

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.
I agree, good looking greenhouse, Fred! And so much room to move around in too.
I am usually thinking of a "spotty", when I see Brabantiae blooms, but I see both parents are coerulea. So perhaps that produced the even color you show.
Welcome back to the orchid forum, Fred, it has been a while. Nice blooms but what impresses me the most is that lovely greenhouse. I would like to see more of it.

Btw the Anguloa Dubia blooms show another nice feature which I had forgotten, the lip is on a hinge! Neat?
added a day later - and they are scented! Somewhat of a minty/Wintergreeny top note.
You might remember the first picture - it is alba Schomburgkia superbiens plant posted in the growing area thread the other day, it had two spikes in the works. One of them opened this week, the spike is close to 5 foot high!
And there is the Dendrobium bensoniae opening more blooms this week. The mount broke a few weeks ago, so that's why it is now hanging on a chain for more stability.
A neat little miniature is this Pleurothallis tribuloides.
It was a freebee probably ca 20 years ago as part of my very first order from Andy's Orchids. (The Pleurothallis schiedii ordered then expired many years ago)
Looking at the plant ( mount fell apart long ago too) you wouldn't suspect anything, but moving the leaves aside reveals the tiniest red "Lobster claws"!
My first question has to be, what is the name of that scary guy who lives in the Dubia flowers? The Schombo is incredible, five foot spikes and all. I need a Schombo alba! Beautiful blooms on the Den. I've never seen a flower like the Pleurothallis. Very cool.

I don't know if anyone had trouble accessing the RHS International Orchid Register lately, they had changed their website recently and it took me a while to find it.
Here is the link and I also fixed the link in the sticky on top of the forum. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...

Jim wants to see more of my greenhouse. It's not done yet. So far I only moved one row of 57 hanging plants inside as the fans still need to have electricity move air around. Today I got up on a 13 foot ladder to move the 4 hanging fans closer to the center and boy was it hot up there. I have a 48 inch exhaust fan and two 4x4 louvers on the far side to such air through the place when needed. Mostly I hope the hanging fans will suffice to move air in a circular fashion around the place. If it's one thing I've learned over the years of orchid struggle it that they all want the air to move as if they were up in a tree where this is normal.
What's in the greenhouse now on one pipe are Grams., Brs., Zga., Onc., Max., Mtssa., Colm., Bllra., Brsdm., Cyrt., Euph. and one Fdk. I'm in the process of adding a second length for some of the cats and other orchids but I want to wait until the wind starts to blow a day or two. Once I've filled that hanger with 60 or so plants I'll start finishing the floor and build a little tropical corner possibly with a small water feature and then come the tables with the rest of my plants. .
