Absolutely! I like the idea of a water feature in there to help keep the humidity up in winter. It will just be beautiful in summer too.

Carol,
the first visitor is Jim Roberts owner of https://www.facebook.com/Flori... who is about to arrive here this morning to see my garden, orchids, greenhouse and shade house setups. Facebook is a book of another color in that everybody (except the exceptions Smiling ) hangs out there. FOG or Florida Orchid Growers has somewhere near 1200 active orchid growers sharing their plants and experiences. Every day a bunch more join up. Any question is responded to within seconds with different responses but you get the idea. Lots of input to anything.

The plants on this list have served me well with many divisions doing fine. Brassias and Grammas are the champion growers among this group and I'm always looking for other varieties, especially Grammatophyllum rumphianum. Smiling

PS price of entry into the greenhouse is a unique number. I'm finally organizing my collection providing pictures, location etc

Ken,
There will be some tropical (rain forest type) shade loving palms in there too. Just one corner around a bit of water to see how this works out. In a way I'm afraid of the evaporation rising to the roof and rusting all my pipes up there but I guess it will last me for the duration.

Fred, are any of your various Gramm. blooming? Many of my Gramm. scriptum v. 'Kiilani' are in bloom. With good air movement, perhaps the humidity won't affect the pipes too much.

Very nice set up, Fred and it looks like your orchids are responding well. I have a bottle palm inside my OC. What kind of palms are you considering putting inside?

Speaking of the OC, Smbc. Clark PItt began to open yesterday. I think this orchid is now known as Lcn. Clark PItt.

Brassolaelia (Bl.) Bernice Foster is blooming. I have two of these and they are both in bloom.

The B. nodosa has just exploded in bloom. This is a very nice plant.

I have some Licualas behind my pool in large pots. A Fan Palm (Licuala ramsayi) is a definite possibility to be moved as is a Licuala grandis. On cold nights I have the spa on and the hot water keeps them warm but it also evaporates over night. A Sangapilla Palm (Chamaedorea fragrans) will be a definite move. It doesn't like the sun at all.

A dumb question. Have ALL Schomburgkia been renamed "Myrmecophila" or just a handful of them? I have changed the labeling on my grandiflora, but that's the only variety I have.

Ken, the genus Schomburgkia is gone. The South America species were sent off to become Laelias and those who have a relationship with ants are now in the genus Myrmecophila. Many folks who are smarter about these things than I am are still scratching their heads as to why. I can tell you that many orchid growers still cling to the Schomburgkia name and you can probably include Ursula and me in that group.

Exactly! It is because I bought my superbiens as Schomburgkia and the name stuck.
And you beat me to it!! Thumbs up
