Sharon, Blue Beetle is the one that got me instantly addicted to daylilies when I saw a picture of it online. Before that, I really didn't care about them all that much! I had a huge clump of ditch lilies, which I always loved, but didn't realize that they came in such amazing colors! For me, this one was perfection!

Both pictures of Blue Beetle are equally stunning. I would gladly have it either way. That eye is to die for! Songwriter is very nice looking and I even like it with the splotches!

Vickie, I'm glad you see it too! Blue Beetle is STUNNING!!! I don't have anything that looks even close to it, and I'm in love! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

I thought the splotches looked really interesting on Songwriter, except they are a bit raised in person, making it looks like it has some horrible pox! Hilarious! The picture doesn't pick that up. The bloom is massive! Actually, almost all of the blooms have been huge compared to what they were when these same plants were growing in Utah. The only thing different is that I put alfalfa pellets in the hole when I planted them here. I always top dressed with those in Utah, but didn't know about using them until after they were all planted. It has made a huge difference. I've never had blooms this early either, so I'm thrilled! I normally couldn't post any pictures until the July bloom thread arrived! I'm a happy camper!

Vickie - Your blooming clumps and garden shots are beautiful! I love seeing other's garden areas! Really lovely .... all of them!

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, Natalie. You have made my day with the pix of the stunning 'Blue Beetle'. Truly gorgeous. Keep posting your pix of it. Can't wait to see it when it doubles. It's a very hard plant to find on the LA. I have a seedling cross of 'Blue Beat X Blue Beetle' which may bloom this summer. I brought the seeds from Rich Howard several years ago. Fingers crossed that I get some decent blooms from those seeds. I also like 'Songwriter' which is well known for all the intros that have spawned from this plant.

Well done, girl......and not one rattlesnake!!! Thumbs up Thumbs up Hurray! Hurray!

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! for no snakes!

Can't wait to see your seedlings, Alex! I never looked to see what babies came from Songwriter. I just fell in love with it and had to have it, regardless of its potential for making nice kids.

Vickie - All those clump shots are dazzling! Everything in your garden looks so well tended and organized. I'm ashamed to say mine are overrun with weeds and Bermuda grass. Your photos are inspiring me to weed and redo some of my gardens.

Natalie - That Blue Beetle sure is a looker! I love the blue eyed daylilies, and that eye certainly looks very blue!

I didn't have much time to photograph this morning before the rain began again.

I always hesitate to post FFO's because it takes awhile for a plant, color, to find its footing. None of my 250 daylilies will start blooming for several more weeks. We are about 10 days late for blooms compared to last summer. So my July, August and September will be filled with blooms/reblooms. The 2 blooms that I show now are new to my garden in May, curtesy of Michele. They both came with scapes. Thanks Michele. Thank You! At least I get a chance to see them bloom this year. But they are FFO's and will change as the season progresses.

Red Ragamuffin - FFO

Icicles (FFO)

Only 4" in size right now, Icicles needs some time to grow into it's normal size and lovely edge.

Now here's what has me excited. On almost every daylily in my garden, I am seeing scapes that have exceeded anything I have ever seen before here. Scapes are between 1/2" to almost 1" round in size. It's remarkable to see. The only thing I did differently this year was all 250 plants received a good dose of alfalfa meal slightly dug into the soil around each plant.
Also, all the plants are huge this year, lush and very green. I have included a few pictures here for you to see for yourself.

Beautiful blooms, Alex! I love FFO pictures, because it usually makes the rest of the blooms look that much more amazing! I love seeing how they progress from first bloom to last bloom.

Thank-you, Natalie. Thank You! For me, up here in New England, it's wonderful to see my garden in bloom. FFO's are just the beginning, and change dramatically as the temps go up and towards the end of the season, as the temps drop again. So while I wait for my bloom season to begin, it's wonderful to see the new plants just added in May, with scapes/buds open, and show there newly found faces to me in there new home. Whistling

Debra, each time I see a picture of that one, I'm sure that I've seen it before, and I can never remember the name! I'll keep working on it! I've looked several up, and they weren't it. I really love the color!

Here are a few of my blooms today. Had a lot more blooming, but they were repeats from the last few days, so I won't post them again.
