Now here's what has me excited. On almost every daylily in my garden, I am seeing scapes that have exceeded anything I have ever seen before here. Scapes are between 1/2" to almost 1" round in size. It's remarkable to see. The only thing I did differently this year was all 250 plants received a good dose of alfalfa meal slightly dug into the soil around each plant.
Also, all the plants are huge this year, lush and very green. I have included a few pictures here for you to see for yourself.

I've noticed the same thing - and I think it stems from similar conditions. I gave them good feedings with alfalfa and fertilizer late into the fall which helped prepare them for winter but it is also paying dividends this spring!

Thanks Debra, When I think it doesn't look all that great, I look back at the pictures of the area before the daylilies were planted, and before it was weeded! Makes it look amazing then!

Before, and after!

Alex and James, I do believe that the alfalfa is what has made such a huge difference for me, as well. When I planted all of the daylilies last year and this year, I put alfalfa pellets in the hole. I also top-dressed with them, and did that again in the fall and this spring. I've never had them grow like this before. I also used to have to wait at least a year for them to settle in and bloom after originally planting them. Now I've got some that were just planted a month ago that are blooming.

Wow....Enjoying all the eye candy here!! so many that I would love to have if I had the room and the energy!!

These are what I have had bloom in the month of June. It is really unusual that I have this much blooming this early. I believe it is due to all the rain we have had this spring.

These are the first DLS we ever purchased years ago--all old diploids--Hyperion, Lexington, and a NOID. They are beautiful in mass, smell wonderful, and for some reason, the deer don't touch them. That's why they are not fenced.

Oh! Natalie ... I love your garden rows of daylilies! How beautiful! What great scenery you have with the hills/mountains in the background. It's flat here in FL, so higher elevations always appeal to me. Hilarious! It really looks awesome!!! Loving all your beautiful blooms, too!

I always go to this and the seedling threads first when I log on. I just love looking at all the amazing blooms that everyone is posting!

My seedling blooms are about done. I am now waiting to see if any are rebloomers.

I will chime in on the alfalfa discussion, too ....

It did so well for all my daylilies that I now use it on all my other plants too! I make an alfalfa tea by stuffing a bunch of the cubes into a footie stocking and dropping it into a 5 gallon bucket of water and let it sit for a few days. I also have my pre-formed ponds full of minnows which make a lot of poo in the water. So about once every other month, I clean the ponds out and use the pond water for all my garden areas. Ironically, I did that today. But instead of just watering with pond water, I added the alfalfa tea to it and a little bit of MiracleGro! Normally when I just water, the plants still look rather stressed, but using this fertilizer mix, all my plants perked right up and looked so much better! I can really tell the difference!!! The growth on all my plants is rather astonishing! I am sold on using alfalfa, pond water, and even used coffee grounds. As well as chopped up banana peels. I am trying to be as organic as possible. Even in this heat, the tomatoes and green peppers are still producing fruit. So I am impressed with alfalfa! It really makes a nice tea and fertilizer for ALL my plants! Love it! Thanks to Michele (Tink) for introducing me to that idea! Makes my thumbs look really green!!! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up
