Glen, thanks, the seedling is just a couple of baby steps away from its parents in looks, but I like the sepal ruffling and color. I'm still "building the foundations of the house" so to speak, so I gotta enjoy each step of they way, learning to walk before I skip and run ahead. Do you have any seedlings blooming yet?

I agree

Tina, I should have 28 seedlings blossoming this spring. Touch wood.

The one thing with it I can hardly get around. I constantly have this protected beetle (Oxythyrea funesta), which destroys me, the fertilized flowers. He likes most fragrant daylilies and usually bites the fruit stems from the approach. So I spent a lot of thime to pick up the beetle from the flowers. Often to late or a few minute after controlling the next at work. It goes directly to the center af the flower and start to eat.

.. so this is the result - I could make a lot of pix like this

Oh my gosh. A very challenging situation to have a protected beetle eating stigma and destroying stamen right in front of your eyes as you try to hybridize. Even with all of the other pests I have seen, none have done that kind of damage. I applaud you even more for creating today's lovely seedlings, and also for protecting the beetles who hamper your work. Thumbs up You work much harder to produce what we others can and with much more unexpected conditions. Thumbs up

Han, why is the beetle protected? It would be very frustrating to have to deal with that.

Tina, I still have the cross number. I would need to ask Sandy what the code means. It is a tet I have had for about 5 yrs and have seedlings from (that may bloom this year?)

Kid, love the Galaxy Explosion sdlg. I think I got the same cross from Cindy but not as pretty a bloom Thumbs up

Vickie, I was wondering the same question about the beetle.

Hans - Can you cover the ready-to-bloom bud in a nylon stocking or some other thin material to keep the beetle from destroying the flower? Then you could uncover it to pollinate it and then cover it back up again to keep any beetles out. Just a thought.....
