Ooo, yes, a very loose nylon foot or other "nightcap" - awesome idea, Becky! I may try this to keep the earwigs and other bugs out. What a great place to share ideas. Group hug

Now, these beetles are listed on the Red List. They are opposed to as endangered species. But not in my garden. Every day I start about 20 to 30 beetles. The nylon is a good idea, but I have concerns that the fruit stalks are cancel. In addition, the time required is much to do. Currently, I sprinkle the important flowers with a strong insecticide - not allowed. This keeps the beetles remote. I also catch the bugs and bring the other to a place. I'm just scared about the purposeful approach. Preferably, the fragrant varieties. The immediately go to the center of the flower and begin directly with the food.

Here my spider seedling again

Tina - Let us know if you try my idea and whether it works or not to keep the bugs at bay!

This one of my seedlings from today. It got my attention the minute I glanced over at the bed it is in.

Hans - Beautiful blooms! Another idea would be to cover them with a hoop house cover using sheer fabric. I did that for a container caterpillar garden to protect the caterpillars from being eaten by the birds. It worked well and still allow water and sunlight to come through the fabric. Sorry to hear that the beatles are protected. Good luck trying to come up with a solution besides pesticide.

Some of my new blooms from seeds. Some I have the parents tag. Others no tag, chickens rearranged them for me first year. I am not a professional. I wanted to try my hand at growing from seed so I did. So much fun to grab camera and go see which one's have bloomed.

Nice seedlings everyone.
I need some of those chickens to scratch in mine Linda, great first try.

Linda - YOU did good on those hybrid seedlings! Wow! Nice blooms!

Fred - Don't compost a single one of those!!! (If so, just send them to me instead! LOL!) Seriously ... I don't know how you choose which to keep and which to pull, but I haven't seen a undesirable one in your photos! I must be too sentimental ....

I see you've been getting some rain, too! I think the rainy season has finally arrived here on the east coast of FL.

I was lucky enough to get Emma's Curls when it was still a seedling back in 2010, the pod parent of Emma's Curls is Lillian's Womans Touch which I had given Mr Falck a few years earlier. Him and I have traded a lot of show quality daylilies over the years because we like competing against each other. The first year I had it I crossed it with my name sake, this will be the first introduction from EC, and will be named "Lillian's John Falck" for the man who created Emma's Curls. We will name one here, just not this one.

A few EC seedlings you may have seen before.
