Nice shots David! Redbud tree that the goldfinch is in?

I have at least one male RT Hummer. The hummies have been having big wars for the past 2 days despite 3 feeders. This morning they weren't even wanting nectar but were clearly hunting protein in the form of bugs & *still* they were fighting over territory.

That is what I get. Females only or maybe some are juveniles. But not the adult males. I can't figgure out why.

I saw one juvenile male a couple of months ago but it's the only male hummingbird I've ever seen around my garden.

@flaflwrgirl Ann that is the ever present Redbud tree. I have them all over the property and didn't plant a single one. Gorgeous in the spring but appearance wise nothing special. It does provide some open shade with a bit of sunshine filtering through.

Those women hummingbirds keep all the men run off. I have a couple of males here regularly but they have to sneak in for a quick drink and even then at the risk of being attacked by an angry female. Just goes to show you who is really in charge. My wife has an expression for this state of affairs but I can't post it here.

The only things I've gotten pic's of so far today are a hummingbird visiting a hoya plant that's hanging in the magnolia tree, and a black racer snake slithering through the boxwood hedge ... eek! My plan was to weed in that area today but this guy has changed my plans. The black snake is a good one but all snakes scare the beejeebies outta me!

Yep. That black snake can not harm you BUT they can make you harm yourself. Personal experience here.

I agree on both counts! And you will most likely scare the beejeebies out of the snake! How many times have a snake & I scared each other half to death?

For some reason Im not afraid of snakes, used to be afraid of spiders but thankfully that went away. When I see a snake It's like seeing a squirrel or bird, even better because they stay hidden and I don't see them much, but I'm thankful for the job they do keeping down the cute but destructive mice and chipmunks.

Just a couple for today. I put a couple of more of the hummer in the hummingbird photo thread. I figured most of you check that thread out as well.

Well Ann I'd say she is mean enough that she will never let a male close enough to be a mama. Though Males are treated like a broke sailor in a house of ill repute.
