Hey Brin the trip went great. They had a ball. Took some great videos and pics. She can now take that off her bucket list. I have been holding my plants waiting for our dry period to pass. They are looking fine. I will plant them as soon as the rains start which should be soon. shirleyt

I'm here Shirley!! I bet Brin is getting ready for the move whenever that is going to happen. I'm a little crazy because my husband retired this week and then we got a new kitten. I'm trying to keep up, but that little furball is a pistol!

I think it's just that time of year. We're all gardening. Rolling my eyes.

I started to plant out my coleus today, did the bed in front of my front porch today. As I planted each pot, cup, or cell, I threw the empty container on the lawn. When I finished, I couldn't believe how many empties there were. Some of those plants were really small- so hard to imagine what it will look like when they grow up and get their summer colors. (And of course how much space they'll need). It's really a small bed, hard to believe I spent the whole day on that one area. Most of my time was spent deciding what to put where and who looks better next to whom.

Now, I'm exhausted. I could go to bed now and sleep until morning.

Hi Folks,

I'm coleusless. First time in years I haven't had even one. I haven't even "hit up" Connie for any cuttings yet because I'm going to be gone for almost a month next month and I don't know if Hillary will be able to keep them moist like they like. It gets so stinking hot here in June and July that I don't want to abuse them. Hillary has been learning the watering routine since she moved in. She's doing a couple of rose bushes and so far, she's been pretty good about keeping them watered. She's still young though and likes to sleep til noon when she can. Plants will have to be watered twice a day if I start making pots.

We've started some herbs from seed and have tomatoes and other herbs in one of the "Topsy Turvy" pots. I've got tomatoes!!!
I bought a couple of those watering glass globes for that. She doesn't understand how much water that thing needs though to make sure all of the plants are moist. Too many times I've caught the maters drooping after she has watered. She will learn.

I'm trying my best to work it so Rick can go with me to VA this year. Even if not for the whole month. So I need Hillary to step up to the plate to help with the plants.

This weekend we went to the deer lease. Our camp area is pretty much green and brown. We've just recently moved our trailer about 50 yards and I want some color there. We've got running water now that they drilled a well. Out on the high lines there are plenty of wildflowers in bloom right now. So I took out my handy pocket knife and dug up an assortment of flowers as an experiment. I planted them around a small area with two pines in the center of the driveway area. This morning they looked great!

WARNING - SNAKE PHOTO

You may wonder what my husband is doing there in that photo (after you admire the wildflowers, of course!).

He found a snake out in the woods. He determined that it was NOT poisonous and had let him go. He determined this because the snake had no fangs. No way to distribute the venom. I am ignorant where it comes to snakes. As far as I'm concerned a snake is a snake is a snake and the only good snake is a dead snake. I know... not very humane of me.... but I just don't like 'em.

The snake went RIGHT for my new wildflowers. And then proceeded to climb up that tree. I've never watched a snake climb that way before. As I said before, I'm not a snake lover by any means and do my best to avoid them. I was fascinated though to watch him climbing. Had to run get my camera. He was about 2 1/2 ft. long. He got himself so coiled up (with Rick's prodding) that I thought he was going to be tied in a knot!

I explained to the snake that it was RICK that was prodding him and I just had a harmless camera in my hand. I also stayed far enough back, using my zoom to get my photos.

Any body have any idea what kind of snake this might be?

A Better photo of his head.

I thought maybe someone might recognize the pattern on him.

I'll let you know about the Topsy Turvy Allison. So far I love it. I got Connie one the same day and her tomatoes are already turning RED! Her tomatoes are smaller than mine though and I bought the plants for both. It was a birthday gift for Connie. Rick told me to get one for myself too. Hey, I can eat everything I bought that day. So yes, I'm still on the "buy only plants I can eat" mode. I shudder to think how much money I've saved since I began this. I never thought I'd make it this long. But I'm doing great!

WARNING - ANOTHER SNAKE PHOTO
I was googling last night and the closest I could come to his pattern was a Rat Snake aka Chicken Snake. Said they were not poisonous. So that's a good thing.

It was pretty wicked watching him climb up that tree. Looked like no effort at all for him.

I thought it was also neat how he watched both of us. If one would move, his eyes would follow. Not as much with me, but he really kept an eye on Rick. I suppose with all of that prodding and poking, he was pretty upset with him.

We went riding after taking the photos. Was gone for about an hour and a half. Of course, he was not in the tree when we returned, so we'll probably find him again. At least this time we'll know right away that he's not poisonous.

Rick seems to be a "snake magnet". He's never had any fear of snakes. Last week he caught a snake. We thought at first he might be a coral snake. Then decided he wasn't brilliant enough in color to be a coral, but instead a king snake. Turns out (after he'd already let him go) he really was a coral snake!!

Edited: I see I forgot to add the photo, so added it here now.

PP used to tell me "leave that snake alone it is as afraid of you as you are it."My answer was "One of us has to go and it is not going to be me". I always won and never killed the first one. When I got finished running over their holes in my ground with my lawn mower they were happy to move on to some saner place. The last one I saw I hit with a powerful spray from my hose and it was happy to leave also. lol. Fun on the corner. shirleyt
