They sure are!!! No matter how many times I see it, I'm always amazed with how quickly birds grow!

Claudia, cute Gnatcatcher picture and the expression on that Goldfinch is priceless! Love the male Ruby-throated Hummer; wish I could see the males here but for the past three years all I've seen is females.

These guys were all over up in Vancouver, BC, on a recent weekend trip. I assume they are starlings, but the coloring is 'off' from what I am used to seeing. Smaller bird, brown head, brownish body but still with the irridescent wings, spotted belly. Can anyone confirm starling? Since these birds continue to invade so many habitats, perhaps they are simply adapting locally to slightly different forms? I'm about 100 miles south of Vancouver.

That's what I was getting on a 'photo search' but virtually all the birds begging at the picnic tables looked the same. At first I just thought they were starlings, then I noted their brown heads and thought - what are those birds, so snapped a photo. I didn't see one that looked like my familiar mature starling - larger with black head and body. Do you think I happened onto a bird nursery?? I am now finding I have never taken a photo of my nuisance starlings and will do so when I get a chance just for comparison purposes (too bad my camera can't shoot bullets at the same time...)
