Thanks Glen

Thought of you the other night when we watched a PBS 4 pt series on the geological evolution of Australia over the last 400 billion years (or a figure along those lines), the last segment zeroed in on the introduction and evolution of plants and animals (especially some of the weird ones endemic there).

I must hire that series!! If you ever see any of the two Cane Toad documentaries, I am the one in the white lab coat in both talking about their mating habits.

Hey, that's so cool. What is the specific title of said documentaries?

J: Thank you so much for the anniversary wishes! Oh my goodness, your new pup is adorable! Have you chosen a name for him yet? I saw Keokuk and at first thought that was his name ... it just sounded right somehow for a Husky, "Keo" for short. Smiling I think many of us have been taking pictures of the full moon; saw a few pic's that friends posted on Facebook too. Yep, that's a Great Blue Heron in your last photo and looks like a very pretty area it chose for fishing!

Glen: Those documentaries look like they'd be very interesting indeed; I'll have to watch listings for our local Public Broadcasting station to see what comes up.

Cat: Freezing corn ... I bet that is a lot of work but well worth it to have corn in the freezer for coming months.

Yes, it is well worth it! I already canned 70 quarts of green beans. Got the corn finished now I have tomato juice, salsa etc. It's nice to have them later in the year when everything from the garden is gone. It just seems like everything gets ready to pick at the same time and then it's rush, rush, rush to get it put up in time...

Hi there Glen! Waving! How neat. You did a great job. Now, please tell us how that all came about. May I ask what you did for a living?

Ann, I was a curator at the Queensland Museum many moons ago. I looked after the frog and bird collections and dabbled a lot in reptiles too.

How amazingly COOL! What an interesting & fun sounding job. I know it was not all fun b/c what you did involves a LOT of work but it must have been *very* rewarding.

Wow! That sound like a really neat job! Always wondered what it would be like to work in a Museum. Is there a longer video?

It was fun. I named lots of new skinks, geckos, snakes and frogs: about 40 odd if I can still remember. Also we discovered that one frog carried her young in her stomach and another in hip-pockets.

Cat, you can usually rent the cane toad videos. The first one has cult status and is still around. The second is also in 3D.

How neat Glen! I would love it if you would tell us about the frog who carried her young in her stomach & also the hip pocket mother. I'm all ears!

I will tell you all about Rheobatrachus silus, the Gastric-brooding Frog, when I come back on Saturday from going to the mainland for a colonoscopy tomorrow. At the moment I am not enjoying not eating and preparing for the ingestion of that foul mixture. Lol.
