Our low temps have pretty much did in what was left of my plants. I will be picking the few tomatoes out there an start cleaning up fall. I am very envious of all the tomatoes you still have Tom!

Mine are still going with plenty of fruit. Not as much as earlier in the season but plenty to eat and some to share. I commonly get tomato production till the end of September and often later than that.

Tomatoes are $8-9 a kilo at the moment here. Outlandish.

Well, unless one has a real farm stand around all one can buy are those tasteless Supermarket tomatoes which are overpriced even at bargain prices do to the fact that they have no taste or simply taste like cardboard.

There aren't any farm stands anywhere near here unfortunately. Might as well buy in the Supermarket as you get the same stuff as the supposed "farm stands"

We got down to 45 last night, and even cooler for the next 2 nights. Did quite a number on my tomato and basil plants Angry
I'm grateful I managed to get as much canned and preserved as I did. We'll be enjoying tomatoes throughout the winter.

I did harvest 12# of potatoes today, so that made me a little happier.

I love this. The stands set up in June and sell melons!! Who are they kidding, and I know that people believe those are home grown!

Glen, do you plant tomatoes? and if so, when -- soon? Does it get too hot there in mid summer?

I think the farmers markets have regulations, and do sell fresh veggies. My problem with them is I hate shopping, and they don't advertise what they are selling each week. Browsing is not for me. Somewhere on ATP I tried to get them to list what they will have each week, but no one did. I still think it would be to their advantage, because then it would bring in people like me, who would only come if I know there is something I want to buy. Like this:
Corn
Lettuce
Beans
Cucumbers
Beets
Onions
Spaghetti squash
Zucchini
Those 8 items took me 1 minute to type.
But then, if you usually sell everything anyway,...........guess there's no point

Texaskitty--our favorite farmers market does an e-mail each week, to let us know what vendors will be there, what was available last week (so probably will be this week), and gives recipes as well. It's great to get there early, but we've never been there so late that most things were sold out.

That being said--most markets closer to us don't do that. It's really hit or miss. We prefer to drive farther to go to the one that we get the e-mails from. Just a much nicer atmosphere. Most of our markets (but not all) have regulations about what is considered "local" produce, and don't allow anything else.

Texaskitty--you might really like Indiana Smiling

I do love our farmers markets--there is a great assortment of veggies, plants, and prepared foods (fresh cheese, bread, etc.). Truly one of the joys of summer. We do have a winter market as well, and it's a great place to buy local meat, cheese, bread, etc.

Weed. The cherry tomatoes are bearing quickly. They are about two weeks off ripening. I usually take them for granted but looking at the price spike in the supermarkets at the moment I am looking at them gratefully. The organic farm down the road had the same prices which has made me very suspicious that theirs are same as the supermarkets.

It is 30 degrees now here. I think my tomatoes will be ending. Sad Along with much of the other stuff. Hate when we have an early frost. It's supposed to warm up next week.

We just barely squeezed by with no frost.

My yellow cherries are just loaded yet, so I have started freezing them to keep up. We no longer plant any red cherries as the yellows are so much better tasting.

Tom, 30 degrees -- ugh! I think the lowest we got was 40 (thank you, Lake Michigan!). On the other hand, if I had already been putting up as many tomatoes as you have, I'd be at least partly relieved to have the season coming to an end Rolling my eyes.

My tomato plants still look great and are full of green fruit. It is cooler and ripening is slowing down. Lots of good farm stands in my area.
