When I had Sungold, I found that they cracked a lot. The Sweet Million not so much cracking. And that Sunsugar rarely cracks. Now you want to try tiny yellow tomatoes that crack when they are green and barely getting a yellow blush, try Yellow Pear. Aweful! Never, ever going to try them again.

My Juliets rarely crack and two other cherry varieties I tried this year, Black Pearl and Black Cherry don't crack either. Plus the tomatoes are much larger than the Sweet Million and Sunsugars. But I also tried a type called Zebra Cherry and those crack in spite of having really, really thick skin. Don't like them at all!

I have grown Juliet and liked it. May grow a plant next year. I grew Black Cherry last year and wasn't crazy for it but my Son loved it. I agree on Yellow Pear Thumbs down

Paul, your tomatoes look beautiful -- I love the appearance of yellow tomatoes, especially in combination with red ones. And I, for one at least, would love the chili sauce recipe -- I'll post the link to the Cubit this weekend, once I tidy it up a bit and open it up to the public.

Karen, Cubits is another site developed by Dave and Trish (Whittinger), where anyone can basically set up their own site for any purpose they want, including a storefront. Like ATP, it is free to sign up, and you will probably find other things of interest there -- although many of the Cubits have become quite inactive, a lot of them belong to ATP members. It would really be fun to have this kind of recipe group take off! I'll post a link to it this weekend Smiling

Paul, I would love that recipe! Those tomatoes are looking great. We had a slight frost here a couple days ago, and the temps have been getting down into the 30's a lot, so my plants are startting to look ratty. The tomatoes are still ripening though. Last night I picked another two 5 gallon pails full, so I have 4 pails waiting to be processed today. One of them needs a day to ripen a bit, but 3 are ready to can.

Paul, your tomatoes are just beautiful and that recipe sounds wonderful.

We only grow the Sunsugar after discovering them a couple of years ago, and have convinced many of our friends to do the same. Yesterday I picked a huge pan full and froze them for winter and if the weather holds, there will be many more to freeze. I will have to find that large yellow one for next years garden. If they taste as good as the small ones, I will be very happy!!!

I canned several more quarts of the large red ones yesterday, and there are so many more coming. I canned so much marinara sauce last year, that I don't need to do that this year, so it just all goes into stewed tomatoes. I would like to do another batch of the Strawberry Basil jam before all that beautiful basil freezes, but need to get more jars. Shopko is having a great sale on jars starting on Thursday, so will be there when it opens.
Cukes are coming on like crazy and are so good yet. Usually by this time they are getting bitter, but not this year. I should make more frig pickles, but am running out of space. My daughters new recipe is so much better than my old one---way less sugar. I love learning something new from her. She is such a great cook!!!

We missed the frost here, but most of my tomatoes are pretty much goners now. The cold and wet, the blight……….I have quite a few tomatoes hitting the ground small and not ripe, but dropping anyway. I am planning on pulling up all but two of my plants. The two planted in a different spot, are looking healthier, and still have quite a few large tomatoes on them, so I'll hope I get them to ripen.

Its a bit sad to think fresh tomato season is about over, but I know if I had them year round I wouldn't appreciate them as much. And I will be enjoying the sauce I made all winter long.

This is the first year for Black Cherry for me and I really, really like it. I plan to be growing it again next season and Sunsugar also.

Wow, mine almost never crack. And ones that do crack are ones that are way, way over ripe that I missed picking and left on the plant. I for sure plan on planting Black Cherry again next year. I love the fact that they are slightly larger than your typical cherry tomato. Plus the color is so attractive.

When I pick some tomatoes to give to neighbors and friends I like to add afew of those Black Cherry ones on top just to make the regular red tomatoes look all prettied up.

I finished up 5 more pints of sauce today, and I think I'll stop making sauce now and maybe start making some tomato soup. But not today, I need a break from canning, think I will go see what else I can do in the garden today.

Our tomatoes are long gone. We pulled them out some time ago and are waiting for our fall crop tomatoes to get going. They aren't even blooming yet.

The fall crop is what I was talking about. I have a few ripening tigerellas. A few blooms on them all. Just checking if your tomatoes were growing faster than mine. Let me know when you start getting tomatoes, OK?

I canned 8 quarts of Tomato soup today. I had a bit of juice left, so I canned 2 quarts of that too. I think I have enough tomatos canned, Not sure if I'll can any more whole tomatoes, but I have so many yet to ripen. I may, but I'm kind of tired of canning tomatoes. I started a bit of clean up in the garden today, pulling out the remnants of the cauliflower. Hard to realize that the season is ending.

I'm getting burned out of canning tomatoes though! But I still have a lot of them to do something with. Guess the food pantry will get a bunch, and everyone who stops by! Hilarious!

Tom--I admire all you've done. I was amazed at how much time canning takes, and I only did about a dozen pints of various recipes.

I'm sure the food bank would love getting the fresh produce--I know ours do. I also bring some in to share with people at work. This year, people have brought in sweet corn, tomatoes, patty pan squash, cucumbers and many types of peppers. At work, we have an area called "the counter of fair game". Anything on there is free for the taking. Hurray! You never know what will show up there, but it's great that everything finds a new home.

I have a bunch of people at work that just wait for me to bring in tomatoes.....love sharing, because many of them live in apartments and can't grow things.
